Hi everyone, I have a question. I have a sister who lives in eastern europe whom I would love to bring to canada. Everywhere I have searched has pretty much said, I can't sponsor her...is this right ?

If it is, How easy/hard is it to try to get her to at least come here for a visit?

fyi, she is married and has 5 children. Thanks to anyone who responds!

Correct - you can't sponsor her. To qualify to sponsor her you would have to have no spouse, no children and no living parents. At a minimum, you have a spouse or common law partner - so sponsoring her is out.

She can certainly apply for a tourist visa (I'm assuming she is not visa exempt). If the entire family intends to come, it will likely be much more difficult to get approval (they'll need to show strong ties to their home country and prove they have no plans to remain in Canada long term). If only she plans to visit (and will be leaving her husband and children back home), it should be easier for her to be approved since her husband and children constitute strong ties.

thank you scylla for your quick response.

We figured it would be close to impossible for her whole family to get a tourist visa, but we would really like to at least see my sister.
I'll have to look into that and see what happens!

much appreciated:)

Some of the provinces have provincial nominee programs where you can sponsor relatives such as siblings.
To get a TRV she will have to prove that she has strong ties to her own country, so leaving her kids and husband behind while she comes to Canada for a visit is good evidence the visit really is a visit.

thanks canadianwoman!
:D
What is the provincial nominee program about?

oh i just googled it. I dont think this will apply to us!
