Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hello all,

Is there someone here who has ever extended their stay and got accepted?
As reason i want to fill in the truth which is I am getting married and i am waiting for my spousal sponsorship request to get accepted.

I really can not risk writing this on the paper if they will not accept it.
Being that if i have to leave i wont have a place to go.

Thanks in advance

Go for it and do it. I did it and renewed my wife's visa twice before she got her PR.

You are much better being in status. You are in the country, as long as you can prove that your being supported I don't think they will say no. It is less likely IMO.

I am currently here in Canada from the U.S. and recently got married. I am getting ready to send in my application for PR status, but my 6 months is coming to an end. Is it advised to mention that I am living with my now Canadian husband? I am afraid, like the post above, that if I don't get approved to stay here I will have no place to go. But I also want to be honest about the PR application.

Sorry if this sounds confusing, and I know you said just go for it, but I am worried they'll not let me stay. Which would be strange as my husband is here and he's supporting us.

Thanks for any advice!!!

When I applied for my visitor extension I sent a copy of a letter from my boyfriend's employer stating his employment and years of service. I also sent a month of his pay stubs & a letter signed by my boyfriend stating that he is financially responsible for me while I am here in Canada.

I have been here for 6 months (since April 27) my extension was approved through June 2015. The reason I put for my extension request was so that we could fulfill a common law status so we can apply for my PR.

dbentley: Canada does not want to break up families so if you are married I would think they would approve your extension. You just have to be completely honest, they are looking for honesty. You want to make sure you state that you want to stay in Canada with your husband while your PR application is being processed. You are still just a "visitor" in their eyes.

I am new to this, but it sounds to me that you have a great shot at getting your extension approved.
I hope this helps and I know there are some super nice helpful people on this forum that will also help you. I know it's been a life saver for me. :)

Keep us posted!!
Happy Day!! ;D

exactly how do you prove yor fiance/husband is the one who supports you financially?

We had a copy of a bank statement of our joint account and I said that I would support her in a letter.

Thanks for your reply!!! :) Ok so I guess my question is where do I find/file this "extension request"? I've looked online and there doesn't seem to be a generic form to do so...am I missing something? I feel so silly...this should be easier to find. It looks like you have to fill out a questionnaire before they just tell you to submit forms for PR status. Which I already am doing, but want to be sure the CIC has me on file as being allowed to stay here as a visitor. :)

This means that you are answering the questions incorrectly. I'm guessing that you are answering the first 2 questions as "Move there" and "Permanently". This app is to extend your visitor status, not apply for PR. You must answer that you want to "Visit" and are planning to stay in Canada "Temporarily - more than 6 months".

The paper application is here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visitor.asp.

Thank you!! That is it!
cheers!

Congratulations...

Congrats! :) It's always good to read that "APPROVED" message when you open your CIC account and you look for an updated application status :)
I wish I read this before... I went through the same things twice... I'm not married yet, neither was I common-law at the time, and they never refused me an extension.
I was just honest and clear: I'm here to live with my boyfriend and I would like to continue to live with him. I also sent them a copy of our co-signed apartment lease, his paystubs and a letter signed by him saying he was supporting me financially as they told me to do on this forum, and everything went well.

I just got my visitor extension last week either and i was so happy to read the updates from cic that my app was approved. I just put my bank statement and my AOR from CIC.
Just wanna ask if I can ask for a year extension next time?

From my experience, I know that you can ask for as many extensions as you wish, as soon as you can prove you can support yourself (or somebody else is, like your parents or if you have a partner who's working and paying for your expenses here) and that your intention is still to stay here temporarily. An year tho is a long time... I know that you can get an year extension for example if you're applying for PR, but if you wish to stay here for 12 months you gotta have a lot of money to prove you can support yourself for such a long time :o more time you ask for, more money you gotta have.
