Question about postponement of medical exam

Hello Everyone,

I sponsored my parents and they received the letter for medical examination a few weeks back. Unfortunately, our situation is very difficult. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer three years ago but recently her health has declined very significantly. Doctor has pretty much told us that there is not much they can do anymore. I understand that my mom will not pass the medical exam if she goes through with it and we have accepted that she can't come here. However, we'd like to still keep our application for our dad. I am not sure what the right way to approach it is. Is it possible to ask for an extension or put he application on hold so that my dad can eventually get approved? What if he doesn't get an exam now and the deadline passes, will we have to restart the application? Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1. For parental applicants, it doesn't matter who is the principal applicant. If one passes, the other will be considered the principal.
2. The OP should contact the CIC explain, with evidence from the Dr. It is possible that CIC will allow the father to delay his medical, but I don't know by how much.
3. Although it is sad, if CIC agrees to delay the medical and not have the mother do the medical, they will not issue a visa to the father until the mother passes.
