Question about Physical Presence Requirement

Hi, my first post here, hopefully someone can help!

I am trying to understand the physical requirement for citizenship.
I have noted my absences from Canada in this spreadsheet - After graduating university in Canada (2014), I spent a year in my home country (Brazil) before coming back to Canada at the end of 2015. Any absences from that point on, were short-term.
If I understand correctly, the eligibility period is 5 years before the day I became a PR (January 18,2018)
Does the year I spent in Brazil (row highlighted in yellow) count against my physical requirement presence?

Thanks a lot!

The eligibility period is 5 years back from the day you sign the application for a citizenship grant. It can be any day...it isn’t tied to the day you became a PR.

So if you sign the application today, your eligibility period is Feb 28, 2015 to Feb 29, 2020. You should have fulfilled the 1095 day physical presence requirement in that time period, including 2 years as a PR.

Yes I think I misspoke - I understand the eligibility period is from the day you apply to five years ago. I guess my follow up question is: are any absences during this period automatically subtracted?
Because I definitely have enough days in Canada AND I have 2 years as a PR. But I also have a whole year in Brazil in 2015

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by your question. If you were physically in Brazil, then you’re not in Canada, so you can’t count that time towards the 1095 day requirement, of course. It will be your job to indicate it in the physical presence calculator starting from your eligibility date.

Have you tried filling it out yet? You can put a hypothetical date in the future.

You should fill out the official calculator. It’s the only way to be 100% sure. Even if you are not eligible today, it will tell you what date you can apply (assuming you don’t leave Canada in the future until you apply)

Don’t bother with all this to figure it out. Just use the online calculator. Very simple and straightforward
