Hey everyone,

Quick question. My common law partner is filling out his past address's. He was in the military for 8 years and lived at the base during the week for his residence (recieved letters, registered residence) was his parents house which is where he lived on the weekends. Does he just state his parents address? Perhaps with an extra page giving the base address and explain the situation?

Sounds to me like he lived on base, and visited his family on weekends.

Yes I know that's what I said. He doesn't agree because he never registered the base as his address in Germany only his parents home. Hmmmm tricky.

I think he still has to declare his military service? There is a section for military service on IMM 0008..
Maybe just put the base address even if it wasn't registered as his residential address in Germany. I doubt they will look into that, plus it makes sense to call your residential address where you spent 5 out of 7 days per week.
I attended summer courses in a different city, came back every weekend to visit my parents. I thought it's useful to just call it my address, as I sent a letter to my husband while I was there, and it would explain the address on the envelope being different only for that letter!

I see. I misunderstood this sentence from your original post. I thought the receiving letters and registered residence part went with the living on base. Was he required to reside on base by the military? If so, then he should list it. And if (in Germany, I guess) one is required to register an official residential address with the government, and he registered his parent's place, then he should list both with explanation.

If on the other hand, it is not a requirement to register an official residence but he just got his mail sent to his parents house, I think he should list the base as his address.

Does that help or did I just confuse the issue more? I hope not.

Thanks Allison. That does help. I'll think we'll list both with a brief explanation of him driving back and forth throughout the week. I don't think it will be an issue.

Thanks again :) This forum has helped me so much. I'm on the brink of a nervous breakdown and still have long way to go lol

Just stay calm and steady. A nervous breakdown will not help your case. Big smile

List the base as his address, and attach an explanation of what you have told us here.

Thanks Canadian thats what we plan on doing. He was on numerous bases throughout Germany over 8 years so he just has to try and figure out the dates. We'll just attach an extra sheet explaining his parents address as his registered residence and that he spent weekends there.

One more question...He obviosly lists his military service. In his address list does he list the 4 months in Afganistan for peacekeeping as an address. I assume he does with an explanation that it does not have an address because it was a base camp?

When the place where you lived does not have an address, you are supposed to describe the location as well as you can. I lived in several places that had no address, and CIC never had any problems with the descriptions I gave in lieu of their addresses.
