Question about OPEN WORK PERMIT & PR APPLICATION

I've searched on the website and everything but cannot seem to find what I'm looking for.

My husband applied/sent away his PR application back in September 2015 under Family Class- Spousal. It hasn't been approved or even looked at yet and I had read somewhere that if we sent in an OPEN WORK PERMIT after sending in his PR it wouldn't get approved but then someone else had mentioned how they put a big letter in the front stating they sent in their PR already with all the info so I'm very confused.

We didn't send in his Open Work Permit as we just realized there was such a thing. *derp*

Can anyone tell me if we can still send it in after? He would like to work but wont unless he can get a permit for it of course as we'd like to have me stay home with the kids and him work. All I keep reading is how people can send it in after with "Live In Caregiver" at the top but he isn't a Live In Caregiver.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

OWPs are only given when you apply inland. The OWP app can be sent anytime.

However, I really hope you applied outland as you were previously advised...

No we applied inland. He's already been here for 3 years and we have a family and didnt want him to go back. We know it will take a lot longer. At least that's what we were told to do :/

I just went back and read old posts. I got mixed up. Sorry. Yes we applied outland and I feel silly. I thought he could still apply for a OWP ???

Did you apply to extend his visitor status?

When did you get SA?

sorry to butt into the conversation, but just wondering why they set it up that way, that outland is faster than inland? what is the logic?

SA is Sponsor Approval. You should have gotten an email a few months after submitting the app saying that you've met the requirements to sponsor and the app has been forwarded on to the VO.

Sponsor approval takes less than 2 months. If you haven't gotten SA yet, then either something is very wrong with your app or you did apply inland.

The second link looks more familiar. I really hope I sent the right one. My husband did most and I did my part and helped. I feel like a complete idiot at the moment and now I'm worrying it may went inland. I do remember being told to go outland and it would be faster. Maybe that's why I was told about an Open Work Permit. Crap :'(

Life hasn't been the greatest with a ton of crap going on so I've been scatterbrained. I just feel silly now. I'll look into it. Either way is fine as long as he gets his PR sooner. We will look into an OWP if it was inland. I just assumed it HAD to go with the application otherwise we were SOL

sad that they make people wait so long and hold up getting on with their lives for basically 2 years and getting older

hi all,

how long do they issue open work permit for? it is good for 1 year or longer?
Mine expires on the feb 2017 and say they give 1 year work permit then I will get the work permit that expires on feb 2018 or one year period starts when they issue it which is 4 months after I send my common -law application?

I hope I am clear.

The justification for inland taking longer than outland is that with an inland application, the partners are together in Canada. With outland, the partners might be separated, in particular if the applicant comes from a country whose citizens need a visa to enter Canada. Lots of marriages could not withstand more than a two-year wait apart.
