Landing update:
Myself and our 4 year-old daughter arrived in Buffalo, NY by train (with 8 large pieces of luggage). I called Buffalo Transportation when I got there, they arrived within 15 minutes with a minivan. It was about a 20 minute drive to the bridge from the Depew depot.
We pulled up to the window, the cab driver handed our coprs and passports to the border and told the officer we were landing. The officer asked the cab driver to open the side door of the van, and then the officer asked me if I had any items that I was importing now/later, if I were bringing over any vehicles, any large sums of money to declare. He was looking at something on the computer and typed somethng, and handed the paperwork back. He asked us to pull up and park on the left side, and go into the office that was located on the left side.
Inside the first officer took our coprs, passports and the little yellow piece of paper we received at the first window. She asked me if I had ever been charged with a crime, refused entry or asked to leave Canada (no, no, no). She asked me what was my husband's name and date of birth. Then she wanted to know where he was. I told her he was supposed to meet me there, but he was running late. She asked me to call and verify that he was on the way. (He was, but for some reason he programmed his GPS to avoid highways, and he had to find his way there sans the QEW!)She then asked me if I had my address in Canada written down on anything, which I handed to her. I then had to verify all of the information she wrote on the copr, initial, initial, and sign on the bottom, and the same for our daughter's. She then said "Welcome to Canada", and told me the requirements for maintaining permanent residence, and what my rights were.
I was then sent over to the second officer (customs) to present my goods accompanying/following lists. He had me sign and date the bottom of the B4, and then he stamped all of the pages of both copies.
The last window was the cashier, and he stapled a receipt to both copies, kept one, and gave me the other.
When I was finished, my husband still hadn't arrived, so I had the cabbie drive me over to the 100 Queen Street parking lot (off the bridge, first exit, straight across Hwy 124) and drop us off. Hubby was there about 15 minutes later, and we drove back to Toronto.
The whole process was fast and simple.
Thank you everyone for your help (especially Rob_TO)!
