Question for anyone who has already landed there- For the list of goods accompanying us, and the list of goods to follow, we write down each article, as well as quantity and make. Is writing the market value necessary, too? A lot of this stuff is very old, and I don't know how much it would cost.

you do not need to list every single item. you can list things as batches or lots or by how they are packed. for example: 1 suitcase of clothes, 2 boxes of kitchen goods, 1 bag of jewelry. values do need to be listed, that is the whole point in declaring your items. you want to use the price you would use if you were selling the item or how much value you'd claim if donating them. pick prices that are reasonable. if you have personal paperwork or pictures, list them at $0 value.

Thank you!
So basically I just make an itemized (but grouped) list of items accompanying me (or ones that will follow), but I don't need to list their prices? Do I have that right?

you list the prices of the items on the list. if you list 1 box of books, then you provide a total value for that box of books. you do not need to list every single book in the box and provide separate values if they are being batched together. if you are listing individual items, then you list the price of that specific piece. for example: 1 double size bed with frame, xxxx price.

you will need 2 forms. 1 for goods accompanying and 1 for goods to follow. it really does not need to be super complicated.

Okay, thanks. And it just needs to be the prices I would sell these objects at on the market today, right?
Sorry if I am making you repeat this, I just want to be completely sure. Thank you for your help and patience :)

Just an FYI you will need to declare items that cost a lot, for example jewelry or watches. If you don't declare them and they subsequently find them then they may ask why you didn't declare them.

Are you using a shipping/relocation company? If so they have to itemize each piece anyway with a value for insurance purposes, you can just use that list.

If you are packing yourself, it is really important that you only pack items that are actually permitted into Canada. There are many things that are restricted and prohibited (some of which will possible surprise).

To make sure what you can bring in, and what you need to do to make it happen I suggest these three government resources.

Canada Border Services Agency http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/menu-eng.html
