Quick question so I can ease my worrying...

I am a US citizen, my husband is canadian citizen. we are applying outland, and will be submitting our application once we get our marriage license back as well as background check and then do medical. I started my 6month visit Feb 28th, so I should submit for my visitr extension early July. They did not stamp my passport, I am a flight attendant so the stamps I do have are not from YYZ.

On the visitor extension application it wants proof of financial means. Since I am applying for residency it says to send in a formal letter from the bank detailing an account in my name and deposits into the account over the past 6 months. The bank account that is under myself and my husbands name, is that good enough? or are they wanting an account solely in my name? The account that is just in my name is my savings account with roughly $10,000, but since we got married, I have quit my job in the US so there will be no deposits made into that account.

(without sounding too ridiculous..) Since our application will be submitted by the time I have to apply for the extension , How important is it really to extend my visitor status? I don't plan on crossing any borders until we receive PR.

Maybe I am over obsessing about things too much. which could very well be the case. lol

i can't speak to the application for extending your stay, so i will defer to those who have done it.

however, as an outland applicant it's VERY important that you extend your stay as a visitor even though you have a pr application submitted. having a pr application submitted does not give you any implied status while waiting for approval. unless you want to fall out of status (which means you are in canada illegally), then you want to apply to extend your stay. if you are out of status, you run the risk of getting deported or forced to leave if CBSA finds out. all it takes is 1 phone call about your status to cause trouble. it's not worth it in my opinion.

the fact you don't have a stamp in your passport is not going to be an issue for the extension. CIC will be able to verify your entry in their system, if needed.

Since you are applying outland, you should most definitely extend your visitor status, otherwise when it expires you will be in Canada illegally and they may have concerns with that. I personally think you should disclose both accounts, that way they see the full extent of your financials.

Since you have no stamps from your most recent visit, I would perhaps include any relevant information (boarding pass, receipts, etc) that shows you are in Canada at that time, otherwise they may go off your last actual stamp. That said, it is entirely possible (no guarantee but I have heard it is around 6-8 months for US citizens) you could have PR before your Visitor Visa comes for renewal. I would also include your final number when you get it, so they know you have a PR app in the pipeline and they can perhaps even make an inquiry to see what stage you are at. Again, I don't know if this is a great idea or not because I haven't experienced this yet, but to me, I think it would help the officer make a decision.

Hi,

These are the documents we submitted with our TRV extension and got approved. We applied online.

1. Marriage Certificate
2. Payment Receipt of PR Application
3. PR card of spouse
4. Employment Letter of Spouse
5. Last 4 months paystubs of Spouse
6. Latest Notice of Assessment and Option C of Spouse
7. Health Insurance for myself
8. Copy of medicals done for PR
9. Latest 4 months bank statements for myself. ( You can submit ur spouse's as well )
10. Sponsorship approval letter if available

A cover letter explaining reason for extension and that spouse will support during the entire stay.

We did not submit any formal letter from Bank. It was just bank statements downloaded online. I am sure a joint account will work just fine.

All the Best !

I mailed the letter from my husband work ( photocopy of paystub etc) with my renewal application.
I had only $1000-2000 in my bank account ( no joint account) and did not sent photocopy of my husband bank statement (sure, he has much more than mine)
I did not have stamp on my passport too, visa officer stamped on my daughter's passport instead.
so I explain and sent photocopies of my passport and hers.
I got one year extension without any problem.

good luck.

thank you floomy! I read these horror stories of other members getting denied extensions so then I start to worry.
