Question about child's certificate of citizenship

My husband was born in the US, I was born in Canada. We are trying to get his package together to immigrate to Canada. We have a child together who was born in the US and has a US passport. We were told by a notary in Oregon, USA that nowhere in the state is allowed to photocopy birth certificates and certify them. I don't want to send my original Canadian birth certificate with her application for certificate of citizenship since we'll need it for my husband's PR application. Sorry if this is confusing.

My questions are - how important is it that we have the certificate of citizenship before applying for my husband's PR? How do I answer dependent questions on the PR application paperwork? If his PR status is approved and we don't have a certificate of citizenship for our daughter, what does that mean for my daughter when crossing the border when we move? Thanks in advance!

Others here have posted that it's better if you have it already. They can contribute as to why. Coming from the US i can't imagine it makes any difference.

As for the questions, be aware that your daughter is not being sponsored. She's really a Canadian citizen already, you are simply getting proof of that by way of the certificate of citizenship. I also recall a post stating if you have your birth certificate (i suppose both yours and hers) and your driving across, then you will have no issues. We'll see if that poster is still around to concur.

It is not an issue for the PR app. CIC will see that your child is Canadian, regardless of whether you have the certificate yet or not. Same goes for crossing the border; CBSA will see that she is Canadian and will not deny her entry, though technically she will be admitted as a visitor on her US passport.

However, without proof of her Canadian citizenship, you may face issues in obtaining healthcare for your child when you come to Canada.

Your original birth certificate is not required for your husband's PR application.

We were advised by CIC in London that if our certificate had not been processed in time for our daughter (they quoted us 15 months but it only took 4) then they could arrange a temporary Canadian passport for her to travel on while the certificate is processed, if we needed to move once I had my COPR. Obviously we dont need to do this now but I hadnt heard of this before we spoke to the officer. Otherwise as Canuck said she would travel to Canada under her US passport.

Thank you so much for the responses! It's a little overwhelming trying to get everything together so this makes me feel much better. Thanks again!

We are in the process of obtaining my son's certificate but he travels under his US passport but he is considered a Canadian by most CBSA officers we have talked to so no VR is issued.
