Question about Canadian work experience

Hi all,

I'm new here and read a lot but not found information for our situation. We have 430 CRS point (with spouse) and we looking for solution to get PR. Off course cut off can come down and that's the solution. How about this idea: I start my studies in university in Canada (my spouse is the main applicant). At same time my wife tries to get a work permit and set up own company to Canada, and continues the same business we have at home now. Can we get CRS points this way for Canadian work experience? If we can, how many points?

There is a question: How many years of full-time (30 hours per week or equivalent part-time) continous Skilled Work experience have you obtained INSIDE CANADA within the last 10 years?

That's not going to fly, you're talking about self-employment. Your wife won't get any points for that work experience in Canada.

Your best option is for you to study, get a PGWP and work in Canada for a year. If you have good English scores then your score might be high enough for you to be the principal applicant.

Thanks, that could be one option. But if my wife mange to get position (skilled work) and work for one year, how many points shoud we get? Is there any restrictions what kind of company can be the employer? Our friend is a small business owner in same field, and he could offer a job. Is that ok?

As long as she is an employee and has a skilled job 0, A or B then yes, she would get points for this.

ok, that would be the easiest and the fastest way. It seems to be 35 points for one year work in Canada.

If you obtain a Canadian degree or graduate certificate it also will give extra points. As it has been mentioned before Canadian self employment doesn't count, however, skilled foreign work experience does.

If you obtain a study permit and will be a full-time student your wilfe will be eligible for an open work permit. You can apply at the same time for both permits. With that permit she can start working for any employer, so she can start collecting Canadian experience. It has to be skilled work (NOC A,B, 0) and it has to be an employment.

One more thing, there is nothing more important than good language test results. CLB9 in all fields can give a lot of points combined with work experience. Play with the language results in the calculator.

Thanks! How about the school - are we able to put our son to public school if I'm student and wife has open work permit? (5 years old so just starts the school) or do we need to go to private school?

I also forgot to mention that a full-time program at a designated instituion that leads to a graduate certificate or degree will allow you to work 20 hours per week as well. (full time in scheduled breaks)

So your son won't need a study permit, however, he needs to be included into the application
