Hi All,

I’ve a basic question about how the 730 day rule works.

I landed in Canada for very first time on Oct 1,2015 after i got to know that my PR was approved. So i landed on Oct 1st 2015, spent couple of days in Toronto and left on 4th Oct (stayed Oct 1-Oct4, total 4 days).

I permanently moved to Canada just last month, entered on Sep 19th, 2018. While i was doing paper work at border, the officer told me that i only have 10-12 days to go out of country in order to meet 730 days criteria (to renew my PR). i have 4 questions-

1. Does my 730 days clock start the day i land and the date on PR card is irrelevant for calculating 730 days (on my PR card, the date says Dec 21, 2015 to Dec 21, 2020)?
2. Will my time from Oct 1, 2015- Oct 4, 2015 be counted as 4 days in Canada?
3. When will i complete my 730 days assuming i don’t go out of country until i do.
4. Are my wife and son (secondary applicants) are exempted from this 730 days obligation or they also have to spend 730 days to get a renewal?

Thanks,
Siddhartha

1) The day you landed.
2) Yes.
3) You'll have to calculate that.
4) No - they are not exempt. They must meet the 730 residency requirement to keep their PR status.
