I have a query relating to my passport validity. I have just begun with the process (just waiting for my WES evaluation for submitting my application) and I'm aware that it generally takes 5-6 months bracket from the time I receive an ITA for my application to be fully processed.
Now, my passport is expiring on July 30 2017 & I was planning to initiate its renewal in Aug 2016.
Should I hold on to my previous passport and go for its renewal only once I receive my visa or should I get it renewed before I actually submit my application. I am really confused on this one.
In the later case, what will happen to the VISA, will it be transferred to the new Passport??

You still have plenty of time to renew your passport, you application may approved before expired date, in my case, I renewed passport before I got PPR only 2 months and passport was expiring in 4 months. However, when you received PPR, just simply send renewed passport along with letter of explanation, there's no any issue at all. Regarding to visa, as long as visa still valid so you can use it but keep in mind, you must always bring old and new passport.

There are a few things you will need to consider:

  • Since you are beginning your process now, have a look at your CRS score. Do keep in mind that the cutoffs these days are hovering around 480. So you can expect an ITA sooner if your score is around that range. It is better to get your passport renewed when you can to avoid delay in processing later on.
  • However if your CRS is around 450 or lower, it will take a while for your to get an ITA unless you get nominated for PNP. In such a case you can wait until you have a clearer idea of when you can expect an ITA.
  • Keep in mind that when you get a PPR (usually 4-5 months after the ITA), CIC insists that your passport be valid atleast for 6 months. You don't want to be in a situation where you have to run around renewing your passport at that stage.

To answer your question, I would have renewed my passport in August if I were you.
