Hello everyone,

I am currently in Canada on a work-permit + visa that expires on September 14, 2021. I do have a offer letter for the same job asking me to apply for the extension of the work-permit but I delayed doing it. I have a family emergency in India, my father is sick, so I need to visit my parents and return to Canada before my visa expires. This way, I can return to Canada, submit an extension to my work-permit. With the current travel ban for direct travel between Canada & India, I am planning to take a flight to San Francisco from Delhi and then to Vancouver. I need to get a negative covid test result in SF as per the travel regulations in order to enter Canada.

I am just worried if I would be denied entry into flights (to Canada) for reasons, like I am not a PR or my visa is about to expire. Does anyone have a travel experience from India during the flight-ban period?

Thanks.

I assume you have a US visa as well.

As long as your Canadian work permit and TRV are still valid and you follow the testing protocols when you return, I don't see any issues.

Lol. I don't have any US visa. I am just transiting through US. I just realize that US also banned travel from India if I stayed in India for more than 14 days. Thanks for the reply though.

You need a US visa to transit through the US. This would be true regardless whether the US had travel restriction in place for those from India or not. If you don't have a US visa, then transit through the US isn't possible.

Oh damn! Why does the flight booking websites miss this kind of important information. Thanks for the info!

Find countries that are allowing travel from india and that country must also be allowed by canada... The list of countries to which indians are allowed is very small, so you will find the answer soon.

This is very common, i once booked flight from san francisco to new delhi which was connecting in vancouer and i didn't know i need visa to transit in canada. So i was denied boarding in san francisco. US and canada need visa even if you are transiting. Europe doesn't

Ya, apparently most countries denied travelers from India to transit through them. It is also made difficult cause Canada wants a negative covid test result from this third country that is different from India and Canada.
There are only few risky options mentioned in a different thread to go to Canada from India, by transiting in Mexico or Serbia.

UK just opened entry for indians, this might be an option. I haven't checked if Canada is letting brits in

Nope, UK isn't really an option. Although, they changed the status of Indian country to Amber list from the red list, they are still allowing travelers from India to go through airside, which means that they can't avail of the COVID testing in the airport, without which you can't really get on flight to Canada.

Current options are mentioned on this thread.

I will mostly wait till the travel ban on India is lifted by Canada.

I've seen alternate routes videos, you can refer below link of video, check if it's helpful to you. Praying for your father's good health. Thanks.

Thanks a lot mate! I have seen similar alternate route videos too! Most of them are expensive (4-5 times the usual price accounting for the expensive tickets with full refund that needs to be booked & the occasional stay at hotel) which I cannot afford. I plan to wait for this travel ban to be lifted so as to travel from and to Canada

UAE just opened for indians if they are fully vacinnated, UAE is also issuing tourist visas now, that can be an option?

I don't know mate! I stopped searching for options now. I am only going to travel once the travel ban is lifted.
