Hi All,

I am currently an international student in Canada who is in the final semester of the Post-graduate certificate program. I do have 3.5 years of industry experience prior coming to Canada. There is a MNC company here that has provided me with a job offer letter. Its a full time permanent job after graduation. My student visa expires in next 2 months and to extend this I might have to take another program. It would be grateful if anyone could answer some of my questions:-

1) For example just consider I have enough of points to qualify for PR. How much time do you think it would take once we apply for PR under Express Entry within Canada? I do understand there are a lot of applications within this pool. But just wanted to know the time taken in average.
2) Would I be eligible for the OINP program? If anyone has received OINP how much time does it take? I was planning to take this as it would help me get more points. I did look through CRS and do have 430+ points. But not 470. Adding points from OINP might help.
3) How many times can an individual apply and then receive Work Permit (WP)? Is it only once?
4) Has anyone faced a situation like mine? Has anyone managed to get PR after 1 year of studies in Canada?

I will post a few more questions in a while.

Thank you.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
1. Average processing time for PR applications is around 4-6 months for CEC recently it has become faster.
2. To become eligible for OINP you need to be in the Express Entry pool with minimum 400 points and should have stated Ontario as intended destination. You also need a bachelors degree from anywhere in the world. OINP announced that they will be reopening & closing the program several times this year. OINP processing times last year were around 1 year for nomination but remember they were Paper applications now they have moved to an Online system.
3. Since you did a Certificate program you will get only 1 year Post graduation work permit. It cannot be renewed, after it ends you need to go back to your country unless your work permit is extended by your company through the LMIA process or you get a successfull bridging work permit which happens only when you have passed the R10 stage of your PR application.
4. PR after 1 year of study is possible, it all depends on your score and draw scores.

If you say you have 3.5 yrs of foreign exp. you should get a score of above 450 with 8777 score in IELTS with 8 in listening & 15 points for Canadian education.

1) For example just consider I have enough of points to qualify for PR. How much time do you think it would take once we apply for PR under Express Entry within Canada? I do understand there are a lot of applications within this pool. But just wanted to know the time taken in average.Depends on your score and the stream you get in. But once you received the ITA (Invitation to apply) then it can take from 2 months to 6 months. My suggestion is to apply for a post graduate work permit in the meantime while waiting for a PR.
2) Would I be eligible for the OINP program? If anyone has received OINP how much time does it take? I was planning to take this as it would help me get more points. I did look through CRS and do have 430+ points. But not 470. Adding points from OINP might help. As long as you have 400+ points and intend to reside in Ontario you might be eligible. Unlike some other provincial nominations you don't apply directly. You will receive a letter of interest and then you can apply.
3) How many times can an individual apply and then receive Work Permit (WP)? Is it only once? A post graduate work permit is a once in a lifetime opportunity. However once you have submitted your documents for PR under Express Entry you can apply for a BOWP (bridging work permit) that will allow you to continue working while you wait for a PR.
4) Has anyone faced a situation like mine? Has anyone managed to get PR after 1 year of studies in Canada? Personally no. It is not impossible. Just start the research early, explore all your options and once you feel ready then try to gather as soon paperwork as possible.

I will post a few more questions in a while.

Thank you.

Just a quick suggestion, go for your second year of study.

I believe scoring in IELTS also makes a big difference. We do have to write the IELTS GENERAL TEST and not the ACADEMIC right?
