Query About Work permit

Hello Friends,

I took 1 year PG course. But I guess to get PR easily you need to stay for atleast 3 years in canada. So I was wondering Is it possible to do 1 year course after completing my 1 year course and get 3 years work permit.

Is it possible or I'll be getting only 1 year work permit after both the courses.

As 1+1=2 years of study = 3 years of work permit

About PGWP:

If we go by info in black and white on CIC, you should get only two years PGWP. However, people with 2 years of study get 3 years of PGWP. In fact I have met people who got 4 years of PGWP.

Now, there is another trick that works and has worked for many in Ontario. Once you complete 1 year program, you can pursue another program of just 1 semester rather than 1 year program. Many people have got 3 years PGWP even via this route. Hence, it saves one semester's fee and 6 months of time.

About PR;

It depends on individuals. Some people end of not securing PR even after 3 years. Some people do it with 1 year PGWP. So it's not about time, it's about understanding the process, how it works. Different Provinces have different PNP programs. For example, if you pursue a program in Ontario and do not fetch a field relevant job (which is NOC B category job as per Ontario PNP), you will not be eligible to apply for PR.

Now, if you move to province such as Alberta where one can apply for PR even with a factory job or any NOC C category job irrespective of his/her background, can apply for PR after just couple of months (at the moment for Alberta it's 6 months if I am not wrong, though there was a quick change last month where it was made to 1 month only, but for applications submitted by 26th September). Do check this info yourself online on all provinces' sites to be sure of exact info as I Might have missed a thing or two.

So this is how you secure PR. It's not about Length of your PGWP, it's about how deep you are connected here, how well you have marketed yourself.

You are asking the same question and the answer is already written in my last post. I do not want to write it again, read it again assume I typed it again... rofl.

I am not the one to issue PGWP, so I am not confirming you your approval of PGWP, What I said was " I shared experience of people whom I personally know securing PGWP the way I talked about it earlier in my last thread"....

I was asking you about the "details" of that how is that possible. As somebody told me after completing your program you'll get the work permit on the 1st program only. Not the latter one. Former one is validated.

Once again, you didn't read the post carefully.

If its not explicitly written anywhere, then it falls in a grey area and the outcome is not predictable at all.

when rules are not clear, it falls down onto the Immigration officer's interpretation of what it is supposed to mean.

So if it is not clear and it has worked for some in the past, it may or may not work for you. No guarantees and you can't challenge it because its not clear in the first place. Is that clear enough for you?

In simple words, nobody here knows for sure or can guarantee you anything. And you wont find out until you try it yourself.

So 1 year + 1 year can mean 3 years PGWP or it could mean 2 years PGWP, depending on what the Immigration Officer working on your application thinks.

The fellow completed two separate degrees of different durations and then applied for PGWP. Hope that will help.

umairq00: Friend, mine case is different from him as he completed 2 years diploma first where he would be getting 3 years PGWP already but I'll doing 1 year program and I'll be getting 1 year PGWP.

But If I do another 2 years program after on I'll getting 3 years work permit. As that guy would be applying work permit on his first degree.. and I have to apply on the second degree, ryt?

So after completing my 1 year program, I should take admission in 2 year program?

Hi ankurkool17,

Keep in mind that PGWP is a one time only opportunity. You can apply for PGWP only once. So you should complete your desired education first. And then apply for PGWP using your degrees.
