Query about spousal sponsorship

Hello all,

I have just a few questions as i have been looking through all the forums to see if these have been asked and as i am getting closer and closer to seeing my girlfriend in Canada i have a few questions. Just to give a brief summary I am a UK citizen coming to see my beautiful Canadian girlfriend which i have know since 2010. So i am initially coming on a visitor visa for 6 months however my first question is:

1) I have visited Canada to see my girlfriend 7 times in the last 12 months, and this time around i am coming there for 6 months, however how likely is it that if i ask the officer at the boarder to stay for 8 months or even 12 months, how likely would they allow that?

2) Now hoping everything does go smoothly, i want to apply for a visitor visa extension, if i got married to my girlfriend in those 6 months of being a visitor visa and applied for a spouse sponsorship, would they deny my request if i were to put i want to extend my visa as i am waiting for result of my spouse application? and if that is not a good reason what would be a good reason to request for an extension while waiting for the spouse visa to be approved?

3) Finally my last question i do apologize for writing so much, i was going through forums and found one forum that went through a lot of details about inland and outland spouse sponsorship, from what i have read i can apply for outland sponsorship while being in Canada however there is a risk of them asking for an interview in London, but only if they believe that the relationship is not genuine which i believe is easy to convince as i have every conversation me and her have had from 2010, pictures videos emails, and on the 14th April is our 6 year anniversary as best friend and also marks our 2 year anniversary as a couple, and have a few things up my sleeve to send her since i can`t spend the day with her. However with an outland sponsor it takes 8 months which is why i would want to ask the officer for 8 months instead of the normal 6 months, however with an inland it takes 12 months, which is also the reason why i asked for the extension too, therefore what would be ideal for my situation inland sponsorship and be able to be there for the whole 12 months while we wait or outland sponsorship?

I really do appreciate you guys taking the time to read this and i really appreciate everyone help, and will do my best to answer other forums as i would love to give back to, again thank you

Hi,

1. Don't ask for longer at the border. That is a good way to get yourself refused entry. Take whatever they give you and then apply for an extension later on if you need to.

2. There is little chance of an extension being refused if you have applied for sponsorship.

3. There is little chance that you will be called for an interview, so don't factor that into your decision. Inland or outland is entirely your decision.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply I really do appreciate it

1) So when I fill in the kiosk at the airport do I note down 6 months or how does that work as I have never been there for more than 1 month visiting my gf, so do I note down 6 months and tell them it is to see my gf etc

2) And when filling out the extension I can write I would like to extend my visa as I applied for a spouse sponsorship with my wife who is a Canadian citizen and that would be accepted

3) Finally after looking through forums I will go through inland sponsorship as I saw it will give me the option to apply for open work permit while there so I can work, I don't know if that is true or if I misread that

Sorry for asking so much really appreciate the help and thank you again for your input

1. Yes
2.Yes
3.Was going to suggest you go for inland sponsorship because you can apply for owp. It will take a few months to receive the work permit. I would also suggest you start. looking at paperwork and start filling it out before you get married. So you can be ready to submit once you get married. I believe it might take a month to receive your marriage certificate once you get married. Doublecheck the forms before submitting because they get updated once in a while.

Ok i see, that gives me a lot more confidence going in to Canada now for 6 months, although do you think i should get a return ticket since i have no ties at home or tell them i will be buying my return ticket closer to the time, i am asking this as i have visiting canada 7 times in the last 12 months so i believe that they will see that i do go back, but since i have left my job i am worried that no return ticket and previous trips is not enough

And thank you for the advice i will definitely take it on board and begin filling out the application, would my girlfriend need to begin the application since she will be the one sponsoring me or can i fill it out from here and email the forms to her, and also there is no income requirement on her part for when she sponsors me correct?

Again thank you for all the help i really do appreciate it

Yes - have a return ticket since you lack proof of ties.

There's no point filling out the forms until you are much closer to submitting the application (forms are changed and updated from time to time). The forms have to be signed in person by both of you as well (no electronic signatures allowed). So you cannot email them. There is no income requirement - however she cannot be on social assistance and should show income if possible to prove she can support you and you won't require social assistance.

How does your girlfriend support herself? I suggest you have a letter from your mother stating how much she will provide you and bank statements showing she has the money.

She recently quit her job and so if i include the letter of invitation that i will be staying with her and that her mom is happy to support us if needed with bank statements as evidence along with the money i will be bringing in cash and my card with money in it, that should be okay?
