HI,

Looking for some urgent help. I have been living in Canada for the last 10 years and was married to a Canadian. My Permanent Resident Card expired last year and I have no ID to get it renewed. My passport expired 2 years ago and I cannot afford to renew it. For submitting a renewal can I show my old passport and my old PR card? My wife passed away only a few days ago, I was caring for her for the last few years but managed to maintain a very low income job, I am now at risk of my losing my home.; The fact that my wife has passed away will I still be entitled to renew the PR card? Is it possible for me to apply for citizenship? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Noah

You can apply to renew PR card without a valid passport IF you have the passport you used when you became a PR. (Check the what documents do I need? heading). Your wife passing away has no impact on your status.

You do not need to renew the PR card, basically, unless you are travelling outside Canada. Still recommended to renew just in case and it's not expensive.

Yes, it should be possible to apply for citizenship - you need 1095 days in Canada in last five years and presumably you meet that criterion, check the other criteria. Citizenship fee is considerably more than for a replacement PR card.
