Disclosure of funds

If you are carrying more than C$10,000, tell a Canadian official when you arrive in Canada. If you do not tell an official, you may be fined or put in prison.

These funds could be in the form of:
• Cash
• Securities in bearer form (for eg, stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills) or
• Negotiable instruments in bearer form (for eg, bank drafts, cheques, travellers' cheques or money orders).

You can provide a 3 months bank statement for Proof of Fund and a Bank Balance Certificate.
You can also show bonds and other stuff but it should be like liquid cash as in whenever you need cash it can be made use.

Thanks Qorax for your reply, but i am asking about the time when you have to show to the CHC that you have funds, when you are going to send full application. I am asking rather than showing $10000 in the bank account can i show $5000 in the bank account and remaining in the form of investments like treasury bills, bonds etc?
