Queries on PRTD after Soft Landing

Hi All,

I did a soft landing of 15 days in Toronto, and then came back to my home country as I had to attend to some urgent family matters.

I want to go back to Canada, but my PR card issuance will take another 2-3 months, as I have received photograph rejection. Therefore, besides sending new photographs I am applying for PRTD (IMM5524).

I have some ambiguity on the following point, and solicit your guidance on the same:

  1. Point # 9 (The number on your Record on Landing / COPR / PR card) - Is this the Document number, which starts with "T"?
  2. Point # 15 (Time spent in Canada) - Would this be the 15 days that I spent in Canada?
  3. Point # 16 (Absence while accompanying a Canadian citizen or permanent resident outside Canada) - My wife, who did the soft landing with me, has also become the PR. However, since she is not yet employed by any Canadian entity, should I just leave this section blank, or fill her details?
  4. Since my total days as a PR have been less than 730 (not even 100), how do I PROVE that I will be able to meet the minimum of 730 days of physical presence in Canada within five (5) years of the date I became a permanent resident? I don't know how to convince the officer working on my application.
  5. The document checklist (IMM5627) says that I have to provide Two (2) pieces of evidence to show my permanent resident status in Canada. I just have COPR, and do not have any job / home lease etc. What could be the second evidence?
I would be grateful, if someone can guide me on the above-mentioned point. TIA

Number 1: The number starting with T on your CoPR/Immigrant visa in your passport. (They are the same.)

2: Yes, it would.

3: Your wife is not employed by a Canadian business, leave it blank.

4: You do not need to prove anything. If you became a PR less than 3 years ago the 730 day credit is automatic. You don't need to do anything.

5: Give your CoPR. Give your SIN card or something if you have it. If you dont have anything then your CoPR should suffice.

Also I may be wrong, but assuming the document checklist asks you to give documents that prove your RO compliance, you DO NOT need to do it because you are in automatic Residency Obligation compliance.

Thanks a lot for your help @rish888 !!

Got the PRTD  - It is a single entry visa with 6 months' validity, with visa category R-1 (Permanent Resident). Did not receive any other documents.

The timeline is as follows:

  • Received photo rejection for PR card - October 30, 2017 (~50 days from landing in Canada)
  • Submitted PRTD application - November 2, 2017
  • New Delhi Visa Office sent back processed passport to VFS New Delhi - November 22, 2017 [after 20 calendar days]
  • Collected passport from VFS - November 27, 2017

Meanwhile I have also sent new photos for PR card
  • Couriered new photos to friend in Toronto - November 3, 2017
  • Friend received photos and posted them to CIC (Nova Scotia) through Canada Post (address being PO Box) - November 7, 2017
  • CIC received the photographs - November 10, 2017
  • PR card - yet to be received

I submitted the following forms and documents for PRTD:
  • PRTD form (IMM5524E) - downloaded from CIC site
  • Document checklist (IMM5627E) - downloaded from CIC site
  • VFS consent form - downloaded from VFS site
  • Family information form (IMM5645E) - downloaded from CIC site
  • VFS entry/exit form - you get it at VFS office
  • 2 photographs (50mm X 70MM with details on the back - same as those I sent for PR card)
  • COPR and SIN photocopies
  • One proof to support my case (it is not mandatory) E.g. resignation letter with notice period intimation
  • Fee of INR3300

Hi, I became a PR when I was unmarried but engaged. However, there is no requirement to inform CIC of any engagement.
I did soft landing and came back and still waiting for the PR card. Now iam thinking of applying for PRTD but while going through the form I noticed that for status they have given the options as Single/Married/Engaged etc. On my COPR my status was single and if I now apply for PRTD with my status as engaged or after marriage will that cause any problem?

@ac100 , @rish888 ,@Nasrab2005 & anyone,

Please advise me on how to fill 'the date you intend to return to Canada' field in the PRTD application.

01. My question is does this exactly need to match the date that I return ? (planning to return back to Canada after 3 months of a soft landing, but cannot come up with the exact date)

02. Can this field be left blank?

03. If I gave a date falling less than 6 months from the date of application for PRTD, would the validity of PRTD be just for the given date (not for six months) ?

Hi, Thanks for this. This is very helpful. I just have couple of quick questions, hope you or someone can help:

- What should be the answer to Q 12 - Permanent Address in Canada - when it was a soft landing for 10 odd days i.e. if you dont have a permanent address in Canada.

- Also I cant see the Family information form (IMM5645E) in the checklist to be submitted for PRTD, How did you get this form and is it actually required?

Hi ,

My Name is Sandeep I have a query, I did soft landing ( stayed for 20 Days) in Canada and returned back to India and got married. I want to go back to Canada but I don't have PR Card , I want to apply for PRTD , in PRTD application there is a column regarding Martial status, whether i have to mention my maritial status as Married ? as when I landed in Canada I was single I received the COPR as Single will it be a problem if I mention the martial status as Married in PRTD application ? As I have stayed less than 2 years what is the option I have to select in the PRTD Application , whether I have to select " Humanitarian grounds" ? If yes what is the reason I have to mention, please help me with it.
