Hi Seniors,

I came to Canada as a PR in March 2018 and am planning to file for Citizenship in a may 2021. My queries regarding Application for Citizenship-Adults Form no. CIT 0002 (10-2020)E are:

1)
I have a photocopy only of my IELTS exam General Training taken in Sep 2015. I don’t have the original result .Can this photocopy be used as proof for proficiency in english.
OR
Should I apply to get a Duplicate result of the IELTS and submit that Duplicate result with my application?

2)
Following are the question-wise queries regarding the filling of Citizenship Form No.CIT 0002 (10-2020) E:

Q5). Have you used any other name:

My name as per:
-CURRENT PASSPORT and CANADAIAN PR & CANADIAN IDs : Given Names (1st name & 2nd Name) + Family Name
-EXPIRED PREVIOUS PASSPORT : Given Name (1st name & 2nd Name)…+ endorsement showing addition of Family Name
-All IDs of home country : Given Names (1st name & 2nd Name).......no family name

I even mentioned the same in my PR Application for which I had submitted an affidavit mentioning:
Given Name (1st name & 2nd Name) IS SAME PERSON as Given Name (1st name & 2nd Name) + Family Name

Do I need to mention this fact in the answer to this question? Yes or No

-If yes, what reason: "Alias/Nickname" or “Name at Birth”
-If yes, the form does allow the column for Family Name to be left blank…what should I fill there?
-If yes, do I have to submit any proof or fill form for it?

Q.9) It asks for SIGNED COPY of Online Physical Calculator or Physical Presence Form.
I could not find a place to sign on the Online Physical calculator.

Q.10 B )In the past 4 years, were you in a country other than Canada for more than 183 days in a row?

Since I belong to India and that is the only place I have been out of Canada for more than 183 days in a row. So hope is it ok to I mention the reason for NOT providing a police certificate as :::::: “Country of Origin immediately prior to becoming a permanent resident and landing in Canada “

Q.11)What you have been doing in the last 5 years:
-When I landed , I was unemployed for 2 weeks before I found a full time job . Then I changed full-time jobs twice after that aswell. Each time there has been a gap of 4-5 days while switching from one job to another. So should I mention the initial period of 2 weeks and 4-5 gaps or not ?

I am asking this because so even if I mention the exact dates in the date calculator takes only YYYY-MM ,hence the even though the job status changes
but the month remains the same.......eg1 Landing date is 15 March 2020 and Job1 starts on 28 March 2018 so the calculator takes me unemployed and employed for March 2018
eg 2 .....1st Job leaving date is June 20th 2018 and 2nd Job starts on 26 June 2018 so should I mention my self unemployed from for gap of 5 days ?

-On weeks-ends and holidays I do part-time casual job too as a security guard ,along with my Full time jobs. Do I have to mention about my part-time casual jobs too?

Q13) Current or past citizenship record:

I am an Indian by birth and still hold a CURRENT Indian passport which will expire August 2024. So should fill:
Date Obtained/ Effective: as my Date of Birth..is that OK?
End Date: Blank OR August 2024

Look forward to your response.

Best Regards

Before everything, I should say that I’m not an expert or lawyer. Everything I say is my personal opinion. Feel free to call IRCC whenever you have any doubts regarding your application. do not rely on my answers. IRCC is the most reliable source.

1. Like diploma and degree, the photocopy of your General IELTS is enough.

2. My personal opinion is that, as it asks “Have u used any other name”, it doesn’t mean in a limited period of time, it means in your life. Just mention it in your app.

3. You do not need to sign physical presence calculator form any more, according to a new announcement by IRCC and the instruction guide.

4. Regarding the police certificate, according to the instruction guide, if the only country you lived in for more than 183 days in a row is your country of origin, and it’s before becoming a PR, you do not need to provide a police certificate and just check no.

5. Yes, mention all gaps, and if you were unemployed even for a few days mention it. Do not leave any gaps unmentioned in the list. Just write “unemployed”. However, in your case, since you were unemployed for only one to two weeks, you will not be able to mention the gaps in the list. You have two options:
a. If it was me, I would write the gaps in the list and would write the exact dates in the explanation section.
b. You can also just write the months and say from month A to B employed, B to C employed. Your unemployment would be covered in those months.

6. And yes! You do need to mention even your part-time jobs. If they overlap your full time jobs, write the months again and mention your part time job. Like: A to B full time job... A to B part time job.

6. Date obtained is your date of birth. Leave the “End Date ” blank.

1. If you are applying Online then a Scanned copy of Original IELTS result will work.

9. As per the new online physical calculator version I dont see a section where you would need to sign it but it does have following note, Please make sure that the date of application used in this calculation and the date of signature on the application form are the same. so you dont need to sign.

For 10 B, you will mark it as No

Look at Example 2 from Citizenship guide,

Example 2

You became a permanent resident 3 years and 9 months ago. In the past 4 years, you lived in Brazil for 3 months (90 days) before you became a permanent resident and you returned to Brazil to visit family for 4 months (120 days) after you became a permanent resident. You would answer “No” to the question and you would not need to provide a police certificate from Brazil because you did not spend 183 days or more in a row in Brazil.

For 11, you have to clearly specify all Job start and end dates including your part-time jobs as far you have T4 for it

For 13, you will list your Indian citizenship as Current and for Date obtained you will specify your Birth Year and Month & you will not specify passport expiry in this question 13

Hi RJ2020,

For the sake of convenience I am posting my comments in blue under each response.
I appreciate your frankness on your expertise. So I would request other more experience old members may respond, to be able to take an informed decision.

1. Like diploma and degree, the photocopy of your General IELTS is enough.
-What if I am asked to present the original IELTS result during a later stage. Should I make a letter and send it along-with the application explaining this fact so that that the visa officer knows that I am not hiding facts.

I am very concerned about this point. I was am thinking of using any of the below options, pls advise:

-Get a duplicate copy of my IELTS results and use that as proof
-Use my Graduation and Post Graduation Degree ad Transcripts...they are in English
-I have done a course called "Investment Funds in Canada", for which I have a certificate . This course is used in banking industry.

What do you say?

2. My personal opinion is that, as it asks “Have u used any other name”, it doesn’t mean in a limited period of time, it means in your life. Just mention it in your app.

OK.
Should I also attach the following substantiating docs:
-Affidavit which I used to highlight this fact in my PR application
-Old passport has the name endorsement too

But for this do I have to use a letter along-with the application , explaining all this ?

3. You do not need to sign physical presence calculator form any more, according to a new announcement by IRCC and the instruction guide.
OK.

4. Regarding the police certificate, according to the instruction guide, if the only country you lived in for more than 183 days in a row is your country of origin, and it’s before becoming a PR, you do not need to provide a police certificate and just check no.

OK. But the NOTE below this question it does ask to mention the explanation. What do you say ?

5. Yes, mention all gaps, and if you were unemployed even for a few days mention it. Do not leave any gaps unmentioned in the list. Just write “unemployed”. However, in your case, since you were unemployed for only one to two weeks, you will not be able to mention the gaps in the list. You have two options:
a. If it was me, I would write the gaps in the list and would write the exact dates in the explanation section
There is no space for explanation here, so where should I explain ? In a separate letter ? with yyyy-mm-dd

b. You can also just write the months and say from month A to B employed, B to C employed. Your unemployment would be covered in those months
The present form already gives provision for just yyyy-mm...thats where the confusions begins

6. And yes! You do need to mention even your part-time jobs. If they overlap your full time jobs, write the months again and mention your part time job. Like: A to B full time job... A to B part time job.
OK

6. Date obtained is your date of birth. Leave the “End Date ” blank.
OK

You would n't be asked once you have provided them copy of your IELTS results but as you said if I were you I would not take a chance and get the application returned for such a small thing. Its better you use the copy of Official transcript of your Bachelors or Masters from India which clearly shows the Medium of instruction was in English and also write a Letter of Explanation for the same as you are including Bachelors and Masters cert.

9. As per the new online physical calculator version I dont see a section where you would need to sign it but it does have following note, Please make sure that the date of application used in this calculation and the date of signature on the application form are the same. so you dont need to sign.

Yes go with the overlapping dates it should not be a problem as I did the same when I filled my application

Hi Navid2014,

Thanks for your response.

I think that's a better idea to go with a copy of Official transcript of Bachelors or Masters from India. These documents are in English but they onlyshow my subject-wise marks.

No where does these certificates mention that medium of instruction was english (even though the medium was English only) . Would does degrees work ?

All most all certs in India clearly list Medium of instruction as English, so you don't have this listed on your final full marksheet or provincial certificate.

For example like this one, https://bit.ly/3uRMUrh

If Medium of instruction missing from both Bachelors and Masters then use your Secondary School Certificate it will definitely has a line item for Medium of instruction as English

Refer below article,
