No. You're just overthinking ... and you may end up messing up with signatures on wrong forms. How have you filled the actual forms? If we go by your logic, you must have filled entire application package in a wrong way and PA's name will end up in forms to be the one sponsoring. We have gone through this process already and have read guides and Operational Manuals thoroughly. Principal Applicant is Principal Applicant - in both Federal and MIDI. Not sure which guide you're looking at, but here's what Cheques and Bank Drafts should have:
- Payable to Minister of Finance of Québec
- Must write Principal Applicant's full name in BLOCK LETTERS on the back of the cheque

The person applying for CSQ is Principal Applicant, not Sponsor. Sponsor is just giving an undertaking for 3 years and will be bound by it - regardless of current relationship's situation in future. This application will remain PA's application - not Sponsor's. MIDI don't care who is arranging or posting application. Document Checklist A-1520-BF is going to be signed by Sponsor - that same Sponsor mentioned in Federal Forms and Application. In many countries, sponsors do submit application on behalf of principal applicant, but application itself will remain principal applicant's application.
Do remember that if you make mistake even on Canada Post Money Order, your application can be returned unprocessed. Take advice of people who have gone through this process already.
You can literally use anyone's Credit Card. What they want is name of Principal Applicant (that same PA in Federal) whose file they are going to process and subsequently issue CSQ. Risk with Credit Card payments is that if payment is declined for whatever reason, they will return application unprocessed by mail. With Bank Drafts, Cheques, etc. they will simply process payment, as long as PA's name is written at the back of it.
