Hello,

I have a question regards to the working experience which is different than university majors. I studied BSc in Civil engineering and MSc in Transportation System. Later, I worked as software developer in a US public university close to two years and now, working home in the same direction. I'm taking beginner level French and hope to improve it a lot in next 6 months. I have great interest to immigrate in Quebec. Will the working experience be recognized if it's different than university major ? I was checking the Preliminary Evaluation for Immigration (PEI) online tool which was slightly confusing.

The applicant must have worked for at least one year out of the five years in a field directly related to the diploma, degree or certificate obtained, unless the diploma, degree or certificate was obtained in the five years prior to applying for Quebec immigration.

I get the MSc in September, 2013, so , I hope that qualifies me to apply in Quebec.

I have the last question: I also have over one year (14 months ) of working experience (20 hours/ week) in a research institute where I accomplished the MSc thesis. I have previously BSc degree, so, will that time will qualify me some more working experience ( say, 7 months ) ? The work includes significant portion of computing with research while after post graduation, I completely work as software developer. Please, advise me in this context.

False. What jairichi is referring to is the area of training, meaning the diplomas, that can give you points at the "Domaine de formation" field. You can find a list of the diplomas here http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/publications/fr/divers/liste-formation.pdf
You can use your diploma if you got it in the last five years, without having to show any work experience. If you got this diploma more than 5 years ago, then you must show 1 year of work experience.

To answer your question:
Any work experience can be accounted for in the application of CSQ. However, the work experience must be of level 0, A, B or C in the National Occupation Classification (http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/html/Matrix.html). You can take some time to read and learn about the NOC. Essentially, your work experience can be in any sphere, not mandatory to be in your field of study, but it has to be a high level.
