Hello,
has anyone applied for an open work permit extension while waiting for PR? did you get it easily? (I'm a PEQ applicant)

I've read somewhere that you can only apply for "bridging work permit" but it will be valid only for your current employer.

Thanks!

exactly.
I've applied for an extension in February since the processing time is 3 months.
hopefully, I'll get it in May

You can not have second open work permit, only employer can apply for extension, "bridging work permit is not valide for Quebec

OK, is it a PGWP? I had a closed work permit before, then applied for Open Work Permit, which worked.

PS: What @Leokun said is technically correct (officially, Quebec residents are not eligible for a Bridging Open Work Permit), yet there are some people out there who did manage to get a Open Work Permit (without the Bridging) while waiting for PR (including yours truly). Maybe you get lucky with your extension.

All the best!

what if I want to change my employer? I have to wait till I get my PR?

If you change your employer, the new employer has to give you a job offer. This may or may not be easy, depending on if your job is LMIA exempt.
Anyways, you can then apply for a closed temporary work permit with that job offer.

There is no open permit extension, Once your open permit expires, You will be issued an Closed permit that too if your employer post an job opening in canadian employer portal by paying $230.

It's not working for PGWP (you can renew once for duration of 2 years, close permit), for the other situations I have no experience. In general for Quebec it's not easy.
Unfortunately, I'm in the same situation. My PGWP expires in July, I send my documents in November 2017 and I really don't want to do the extra paperwork, just hope to avoid it :(

Almost_pr, did you have PGWP or just work permit? Did you receive your GCMS?

Employer doesn't post any job in the employer portal. $ 230 is the closed wp fees and it's issued for 2 years (pre-requisite is csq). Employer gets the required ID within a week of application. A friend has gone through this process. No LMIA, no caq required if you have csq
