Hello all....

I'm really confused about the area of training for Quebec skilled workers programme.

I hold -- 1. 3 years univ. level Bachelors of economics
2. 2 years univ. level Post graduate diploma/Master degree in BUSINESS MANAGEMENT (MBA)

Now, for master degree -- I'll get 12 points. (level of education) But, I'm confused as to what points I'll get for area of training? Will I get 12points AS EQUIVALENT TO DCS-3YEAS,Business management for my MBA? Because after all MBA, is a higher degree qualification in field of Business management as compared to DCS-3years of any foreign degree in Business management.

Kindly clear my query anyone....

Hi Tiger,
I'm no expert but since I was in the same position, I've looked around and what I share is simply what I've gathered-not the final word in anyway.

i think the 'route-one' way is to check-out this link http://www.cicic.ca/682/tableaux-comparatifs-de-diplomes-quebec.canada if your degree is from one of those countries and it's recognized then you can claim the points.

if not, another way of going about it is if your area of training or work is regulated by a professional body in quebec. it is then up to you to contact the professional body and set in motion the process of having your education (and experience) compared to the quebec standards they accept for one to join the body. personally, i went thro' this route. it's a long process (at least in my case) so you don't have to wait until it's complete to send in your application (from what i've read). you can get the info here if you are not yet aware of it. http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/fr/emploi/professions-metiers/ordre-professionnel.html

if this still doesn't help then i think you'll just have to leave it to the immigration officers to determine if your qualification is recognized or not. someone posted a documented on the other quebec thread last week from where i read they have other tools for doing that but it didn't precisely say which. you can check out that document to get more info.

hope that helps. good luck

HI DEZ,

Thanx for the reply. In that qualifications grid for India, its mentioned that masters in commerce, arts or science and only MBA from IGNOU get 13 points. Now I too've Post grad diploma in management equivalent to MBA, recognized by Indian govt. education council. Although, I couldn't figure out if this point grid was for the highest education qualification point or point for Area of Training..... Damn confusing! ??? I guess.... I will have to evaluate my profile locally as well as through international agencies in Canada such as WES. Lets see....

Hi, I downloaded file from this link:
http://www2.publicationsduquebec.gouv.qc.ca/dynamicSearch/telecharge.php?type=7&file=GPI_3_1_INDE.pdf

I have some queries, requesting you all friends to help me...
1. points given in this pdf are for AOT or for Education?
As per this, My Masters of Science Degree will earn me 13 points, is this correct?
and my wife's degree of Bachelors of Commerce will earn how much points? 2 pts or 3 pts?

2. If this are given for AOT, then do a applicant/dependant need to have related work exp in last 5 years?
if I am not having the related work exp, then how much points they can give to me for AOT?

3. My wife holds work exp in Accounts dept for 2 and half years(total work exp of 3 years) and it is related to her Bachelors of Commerce degree. So how many points she will get for AOT, Work experience and education?

Pls advice.

Hi mkshah

Regarding your question # 3, I think it depends with when you got your MSc. If you got your MSc inside last 5 years (ie inside the day you receive your AOR), then you'll get both the points for the MSc and AOT even if you have no experience inside the last 5 years. If you got your MSc more than five years preceding the day you apply, then you need to have atleast i yrs experience for you to get the AOT points. It is all in that document Ambi posted last week.

Thanks dez and ambi1775,
I got my M.Sc. More than 5 years ago and no related experience in last 5 years. :(
But since My education is Masters degree in Chemistry, will my application get priority treatment? because Chemistry is in preferred list of training.
Need ur suggestion regarding this?

Hi MKshah,
Your experience is almost the same as mine. I also got my masters slightly more than 5 years ago (sept. 2006). I've been confused about AOT and priority treatment as well esp. as HRM is listed as preferred only at undergrad. I've read the document Ambi posted last week and now i understand that your qualification can be in the preferred AOT (and you can get the points for that if you qualify) but it might not get priority treatment. You only get priority treatment if your qualification is considered to be equivalent of the qualifications listed on the quebec qualifications on the priority column. I don't know what MSc (Chemistry) qualification is but you can check that document or I'll try (re)post the relevant bit here just in case. also i think to get priority treatment the three conditions (qualification, quebec equivalence and experience) must be met but I'm not very sure on this.

Personally what I've done is just sent my application to BIQ paris and wrote them a letter saying I've also sent my qualifications to the CRHA (the HR regulating body in quebec) so they can certify that my qualifications are equivalent to those they accept for membership. If they do this then I can send the certification to BIQ later and hope this can put me on the priority list. That's my interpretation and I may be wrong but I didn't see any other way of going round it. You could follow that route too if you're so inclined.

Have a good day buddy
