Quebec - English medium Education

Hello,

I've got a job offer from a Quebec company. Their legal dept is doing the necessary for immigration. So far it's great after "swimming" in the Express Entry pool and battling the Mon project Quebec.

But finding a public funded english medium school in Quebec seems a headache. My kids are aged 10 and 13, so I'll need to look for both Elementary and Secondary english medium school.

Is there anyone who have been successful in admitting their kids to English medium schools?
What I've googled so far shows that public english medium schools are for Canadian citizens only?
How much does it costs for private english schools? My kids seem to be too "old" to switch to french based education.

Can anyone in similar conditions share their experience with me?

Hello Amit,
Based on my research, it seems that new immigrants are not given entry to publicly funded English medium schools. It seems that even for natives of Quebec, it is not so straight forward to have admission to publicly funded English medium schools. They'll get admission only if either 1 of their parents have had their education in English AND they have been in Quebec for at least 3 years.

But I also found out that it is not so difficult for kids to adapt to education in French. I've personally spoken to someone from Quebec and he told me that he had friends from Korea who joined his French medium school at the age of 13, and were among the brightest. There is also a special bridging class so that kids from English medium school can adapt.

For my part, the employer dropped the job offer, so I don't know how it really is. But had it been otherwise, I would have gone ahead with the French medium school. But then our case is also different, since even if we all attended english medium schools, we have been studying French since age 5 and are all fluent in french. It's just the mathematical and scientific terms in French that were scaring me.
