Hey Amit, my ecas still shows only:

1. We received your application for permanent residence on July 7, 2014.

2. Medical results have been received.

Did they update your ecas? or did you email them yourself and they replied?

I also have 2 lines in ecas..but i got email from cpc-ottawa that my file has reached there and need rcmp check.

I see... Well I didn't hear anything from them yet, I'll keep you updated. Thanks for sharing!

hi, yes I did received an email from then saying that my file has been transferred to Ottawa also they ask me to update my information and send a new police certificate. today I checked my ecas and its changed to in process.. we start processing your application on feb 23

I hope I'll receive such an email soon!! :(

Jad-Montreal; did you pay the permanent resident fee? if not just pay it upfront, I can see that 2weeks since I paid it they send me the email.

Yes, I paid at the time of application (that is, July 2014). So nothing more to wait for!! :(

then u can order you police certificate and wait, they ask me for a new one bc the one they have is expired and its going to take up to 3 months to get

But not everyone is being asked to submit a police clearance, so why spend money on something that might not even be requested?

Dounia and Marlee,

I have submitted police clearance documentation with my file in July 2014. I'm not sure how long they consider it valid for, but I think as long as it is within a year it should be fine (right?). So assuming it is still valid, they won't request anything for me since both RPRF and police clearance were provided back in July 2014... So all I can do is wait!! :/

No actually it's wrong jad, I submitted with my application too but they ask for a new one I called to check they said they need a new one Bc it's valid for 3months that's what they said

I think what they say is that the police certificate must be ISSUED WITHIN 3 months from the time you submit you PR application. However, once you apply, it is valid for one year. I'm sure about this because they didn't ask my roommate to supply a new police certificate.

I also found other answers on canadavisa forums that agree with my understanding of the issue. I quote from this link "http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/police-certificates-how-long-are-they-valid-for-t65966.0.html":

"The certificates must be no more than 3 months old when the application is submitted to CPC-M.

Once they are within that time frame at the submission of the application to CPC-M, they are then held valid for a year from the date they were done. "

and another answer from the same link:
"Actually, as long as the Police certicfate is up-to-date when submitted to CIC, it does not necessarily go out of date if the Application is in process for more than a year -- unless the Visa Officer decides to ask for an updated one. We submitted our Application to CIC in November 2009, with a police report issued in October 2009. We just got a call to an interview for 4 April 2011, obviously more than a year later. Yet the Visa Office confirmed to me that the original police report is still valid. So, it depends on the Visa Officer."

In all cases, police certificates from my home country take one week to issue and a few days to mail it to me here so it won't be a problem if they request a new one. Thank you very much though for sharing your info :)
