Hi everyone!

I'm a CSQ applicant and a long-time reader of the forum. It felt like it is time that I introduce myself.

Here is my profile:

Sole applicant (no spouse or kids)
Education: 12 (Canadian master's degree obtained a year ago - equivalent to Quebec diploma, recognized across Canada by the relevant provincial professional bodies)
AOT: 6
Experience: 4 (6 to 11 months in fragments, mostly as a research/teaching assistant)
Age: 16 (In the 18-35 age bracket)
Language - French: 14 (B2/C1)
Language - English: 6 (IELTS 8.5)
Stays in Quebec: 5 (As a researcher for three months)
Financial capacity: 1

Expected total: 64 points

Applied from within Quebec in October 2012, got AOR December 2012
No news ever since. The call centre says that the application is being processed (en traitement)
I'm hoping for news but the processing times (as shown on the website) are simply unknown

In Quebec, I've been doing an internship in addition to job searches and networking. I can say that it's tough here, but I still want to live here, in Montreal. Something should come up.

At the same time, I was admitted to an internationally renowned top university for further studies in my field. It really is a once in a lifetime thing, and I am planning on going, only to return to Montreal once graduated. I hope that by then, the visa etc will come through, but it would be a relief to receive the CSQ soon.

So here's my story. I hope that your stories are unfolding well - it's always nice to read people's good news on the forums.

Peace out,

M. Grumpy

you are welcome in the forum !

actually you lucky you are not effected by new rules any ways, and it is good that your app. is in process, most likely you will be treated as old rules, but anyways you got B2 and C1 ..

keep us posted !

Thanks signalmaker!

I also re-calculated my scores according to the new points grid and I lose two points in that case (in the French language category), but luckily my AOT is still in the six-points group, which was a bit of a pleasant surprise.

I just wish that there were more transparency into the whole process. That would clarify the doubt and reduce stress for us all.

1- Education: Bachelor (Computer Engineering 2007=0), Master (Electrical Engineering 2010=12 points), PhD (Electrical Engineering-in progress).
2- French: TEFaQ (Listening/Speaking=A2/B1=0).
3- English: IELTS (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing=7/7/7.5/5.5=6points).
4- Age: 31 =16 points.
5- Work Experience: Research Assistant 3 years = 8 points.
6- Living in Quebec =5 points.
Total=47 points.

Is my calculation correct?

Yes you are right, what we need is transparency and no retroactive acts, as this is not fair at all..

Filling an appication can take up to one year !, making DEFL and IELTS and studding for them is minimum one year, and then you send the application and then wat six months for AOR, and then get shocked with retroactive acts. Not fair at all.

Wish you and everybody luck ...

IMPACT BETWEEN DIFFERENCE OF GRADUATING WITH BACHELOR IN COMPUTER ENGINEERING (USA) AND WORKING AS SOFTWARE ENGINEER (USA)!

Hi...

I would like any additional advice to confirm the following!

-- Bachelor in Computer Engineering (from USA and graduated 2009) -> 12 points (under new rules)
-- Work experience -> 1.5 years as software engineer (worked between may 2010-december 2011) -> 4 pts (also under new rules)

Now, according my calculations, i should get 4 points for work experience along with 12 points for AOT under new rules.... But i am confused if i qualify for AOT = 12 pts in addition to Work Exp = 4 pts since the education (Bachelor in COmputer engineering) is NOC 2174 and my job title was Software Engineer (NOC 2173)..

I already submitted my application (July 26th 2013)...am i going to loose 4pts for work experience and/or loose all 12+4 pts for AOT + work experience because of discrepancy in Quebec definition and difference between computer engineering and working as a software engineer????

spouse - 3 + 2 = 5
Children - 8
Finance - 1
I dont think your A1 will be of worth anymore..
This is same as what you have mentioned, you will be through to the Interview stage, however, you have the task of convincing the Interviewer for 3 golden points.
Hi swamik,
Thank you very much for your reply. I think 6 for Master, 12 AOT correct? then 12 point in AOT means priority AOT?

No ,12 points for Master degree and 6 points for your AOT is what Swamik has mentioned.MCA is still getting you 6 points under new rules.There is no priority for that,in new rules priority is given in a order...

Order of priority for processing applications
Effective August 1, 2013, applications will be processed in the following order:

applications from candidates submitted under the Programme de l’expérience québécoise (Québec experience program);
applications from candidates who submit a valid employment offer;
applications from candidates who obtain points under the factor Area of training;
any other application submitted by permanent workers.

Hi Jenalby,
Thanks for your info. So it means whoever got minimum point in AOT also consider as priority.

Unfortunately not the case....This is what is mentioned in the immigration site

The Ministère prioritizes the processing of immigration applications filed by skilled worker candidates with diplomas according to the points associated with the area of training on the 2013 List of areas of training (PDF, 332 Kb).

applications from candidates who obtain points under the factor Area of training; will be internally prioritized based on the points earned for AOT..

Lemans207 can you please confirm on your point, do you mean to say that if we are in the 12 or 16 points it will take less than a year for the interview and if not, it will take much much more ??

Thank you Leman207. Actually in my case I applied as Primary applicant, and they changed my application with setting my Spouse as Primary applicant. According to them the reason is, she gains more points being a primary applicant. Unfortunately, they did not mention any reason or valid point calculation in the AOR they have sent. I am anyway confused and keeping my fingers crossed on what point they have alloted to my file
