I wonder how the processing times will change now that we have to submit our application for the federal part to the CIO in Sydney, Nova Scotia. I know that for FSW, it should help make it quicker. However, is it the same for QSW? Will submitting it to the CIO make it longer? Hmm.

Hi all, just an update that I landed in Montreal on Jan 17. All processes at the airport went very smoothly and quickly (about 45 minutes). I believe there was only 1 other person who landed at about the same time as me, which is why it went so quickly. The immigration officer did ask me about POF and if any of my status changed (married, criminal etc).

I did the following in the same order: Applied for my SIN, opened a bank account, applied for my health card, all while job hunting. Had an interview yesterday for a call center job which I got and start on Monday. Not the ideal job, but something for now.

Weather is very cold, but once you dress well enough, it's not unbearable. You have to ensure that your extremities are warm (hands, feel, head), because that makes a big difference in how you feel.

The language you hear the most here is French, then English, then lots of other languages from around the world. Most people who deal with customers are bilingual (French and English). Use the time while you wait for your PR approval to improve your French, as this will give you a jump start once you get here.

hello my friend

No my dear as per the Quebec immigration guide you don't need to have practised your degree if it is obtained within last 5 years of your application to get the AOT point.

They have given me that 4 points of experience because my 9 months of professional experience was coming in 5 years preceding my application, so this work experience was after a 1 year certificate course in human resources management.
Hello quebec2011,

mkshah is correct here. I am also not sure. Your case is quite confusing. But, it looks like that you have not received points because your profession is before your degree. Even though they give points for your area of training, if the degree is completed within 5 years, but in GPI it is mentioned the following,

Pour se voir attribuer des points au critère Domaine de formation, le candidat doit détenir un diplôme « terminal » conduisant directement à l'exercice d'une profession.

To be awarded points for the test area of training, the candidate must have a degree "terminal" leading directly to the practice of a profession.

That's why you have not received points or AOT. your profession should start after your degree. Even though, AOT is separated from profession, but they want to assume AOT and Professional experience( may be in domain diferent from degree) is intact.

Your one year certificate course will not help you to give points for Area of training. This is mentioned in GPI...

[The corresponding foreign degree, in Quebec, a university first degree attesting to 1 year of full-time studies can not be assessed under the test area of training, as it compares to a general post-secondary education (with concentration) (SEE GPI 3-1, Section 3.3.1.1). It is the same for the degree corresponding to a first university degree attesting to 2 years of full-time student, except a foreign degree akin to a technical diploma 3 years ( See Notes on evaluation of foreign credentials).]

Hence, for example you have completed B.Com in 2004-2007. You have exp in from 2007-2008. You have completed M.COM in 2008-2010. You have applied to Quebec immigration in 2010. You will get points for your master degree and you will get points for your area of training because you have the professional experience in 2007-2008 that is after your degree B.COM( which is area of training list). That means, your exp after your listed area of training will help you to get points in AOT. May be your exp related to your work or completed within 5 years, whichever is valid. That means , in this case your AOT points will be calculated solely on the basis B.COM, and not M.COM.

You have got points for your exp, because they give points for exp, if it is within last 5 years, may be or may not be directly after your listed area of training degree. This is not true for AOT marks.

Hope this helps.

call center agents earn a minimum of 10$ per hour for english speakers... but for the bilingual pple, they earn a minimum of 12$ per hour depending on the company.... bank call center agents pays a minimum of 15$ per hour while some credit card coy pays. Telecoms call center agent in bell earns 14.5$/hr starting wage, FIDO/ Rogers earns 15.5$/hrs, TELUS earns 19-22$/hr depending on the project. 99% of the call centres runs 24/7 365days a year

I am very confused about the validity period of police certificates. Why does it say in the Document Checklist for Quebec-Selected Workers, under item 14 (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5690E.pdf) that "police certificates are generally considered to be valid for one year from date of issue; therefore, depending on the processing time of your application, you may be requested to submit new certificates"
BUT on this page (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/intro.asp) it says "The certificate must have been issued no more than three months before you submit your application."

Does it mean that I have to make sure that the police certificate has been issued no more than 3 months when I submit my application... but if the application process takes longer than a year, then they would have to ask me for a new one?

What if I submitted the application on February 10 but the police certificate was issued on November 5 (therefore the 3rd month would be February 5), would they still accept it?

Thank you for your detailed explanation and I really appreciate your effort for writing such a wonderful answer.

In fact this issue is confusing me either. But thankfully when I filed my application I had joint a company and I was working there for about 2 months so now It has been 17 months that I am still working there so hopefully this time I mean after Appeal they will give me the AOT point as I am practising my degree. Next week I am sending my appeal and I Pray that everything go smoothly.

Thank you .

Hi all,

I'd applied for Quebec immigration as skilled worker and have just received my permanent resident visa. I've got a question about the process of landing in Montréal with my visa and CSQ.

As I'm still working here in Switzerland and have quite some stuff to do before moving to Canada, I'm planning to land in Quebec late summer, stay there for just a week (can't stay more due to work issues), and then return to Switzerland. My ultimate move to Canada might be delayed one or even two years after I land. So my questions are:

- Is there any chance that I receive the PR card within one week? If not, would it be possible (and safe!) that a friend of mine (whom his address I give to the officer for mailing the PR card) send it to me by post after it has arrived, or should I sign something there in person?

- Are there any other formalities that I should do (or I better do!) there before leaving Canada, knowing that I might be back in 1-2 years? (e.g., do I already have to apply for SIN, register at some places, open a bank account, change driver's license, etc?!)

- Do I have to pay any sort of taxes/fees during the 1-2 years while I've not yet moved to Canada?

- Finally, would it suffice to show a bank statement of my Swiss bank account at arrival as the proof of funds? I'm not planning to take any large amounts of cash...

Thanks a lot for your helps!
