hey dez, yes at this point you must done lots of practice tests. It helps you get used to the format ant it takes out the nervousness during the test. The more comfortable you are, the best you'll perform. The oral comprehension is ok, especially if you have been listening to radio broadcast or tv news. The part where they make you listen to the tape twice is where you can get the maximum of points. The trick for me was to look at the question and use a note sheet where I would take notes (one word, a group of words, number) what I believe to be the right answer (some are pretty straight forward, so u may not even need the sheet). By doing that it also helped me when the answer had to be a set number of words or number, and this method allowed me to not focus too much on writing that answer correctly. I used the second time around to confirm my answer.
The tough part about the listening is the round when they make listen to the tape only once...no real tip on this one. U have to stay FOCUS! But if you miss a question/answer, DO NO PANIC, just go to the next one because you may miss all the questions that come afterwards. It happened to me toward the end, the dialogue was getting so long (and borred) that I lost track, and didnt know if the part I was supposed to hear had passed or not. Well it didnt, they just made it long on purpose and the answer came towards the end.
This is a tip that you may already be using from your practice, but it was quite helpful at times: Anticipate on some the questions. For some questions, you can pretty much know what they 'type' of answer may be.
For both writing parts, you dont need to focus too much on these. You can just do the minimum as quebec immigration wont look at it anyway. However, you do need a minimum score; otherwise, you can fail your entire DALF. I know it sounds weird to tell you not too put too much effort, but it was quite tiring to do the whole thing. After the writing parts, I was the first one to do the "production oral", so I pretty much did all 4 parts of the test back to back. I had quite a headache after writings lol So it's a choice for you to put effort on that or not (I repeat quebec dont look at them anyway).
For Production Oral, my 2 jurors were pretty nice. I talked to guy a little bit before it started as he asked me if the 3 first part of the test went ok for me. I told him yes, but it was quite long, but I wasn't sure about this part now. He was nice. The reason why am talking about this is because if you have the opportunity to make small talks, go ahead, especially if juror seems nice. (my opinion). I dont really have tips on this part. you have to practice, practice, when it comes to talking it's really an individual type of thing. I did try to put a couple of connector words (cependant, malgré que, etc..), but not too much coz then it's less of a 'natural' talk. Even though I was tired, the "oral production" was pretty cool because they were mostly asking question and I was trying to go on and on.
Hope this helps. tried to give you tips and and also about the whole experience. Worst case scenario, you can TFCQ, it was easier and quicker. Gd luck.
