my personal thinking is that they haven't awarded you points for ur M.com rest they know better cos the AOT for U074 is at University Level.

the Area of training which most of the guys who have done MBA claim but i don't know exactly what happened we will only come to know when they have awarded you points for your Education.

Hi guys.. here are all my details to understand my case better as I am myself not able to figure out why they declined my application:

Education: B.Com. (Specialization: Finance and Accounting) 3 yrs completed in 2009
M.Com. (Specialization: Management) 2 yrs completed in 2011 (Distance Learning)

Please have a look here and select Inde: http://www.cicic.ca/682/tableaux-comparatifs-de-diplomes-quebec.canada to open the PDF "Tableau comparitifs des diplomes Indiens"

Experience: Part-time Accounting Assistant in a CA firm (2008 to 2012) that's equivalent to 2 yrs of full-time work experience

French: A2 in Oral Comprehension and A1 in Oral Expression

My IELTS score gives me full points in English and other things are fine. Can someone please do the points calculation for me? According to me, it's 50 points.

Please have a look at this page in which they have ticked only the AOT option as the reason for refusing my application: http://imm.io/KCCU

According to me:

1) It can't be rejected because of the job being part-time (4 hrs x 6 days = 24 hrs/week) because they have clearly mentioned that they do accept part-time work experience.
2) My French score is low but they have not marked that as a reason so it can't be that either
3) I am just confused if they have not granted me those 2 extra points for my Masters degree because it was obtained through Distance Education. I am also confused if it's because my M.Com. is specialized in Management and not Finance and Acctg. unlike my B.Com and work experience. If that's the case, my total would be 48 points if M.Com. degree is not counted.

But if the problem is not because of the M.Com. degree but indeed with the entire AOT/work experience, then that won't help at all because the deficit will be full 6 points of AOT then and not just 2 points of M.Com. degree.

My consultant (Y-AXIS) feels that this is an error on BIQ's part and are going to re-send the application but I don't really think that would help. I am waiting for my DELF B1 main certificate which will arrive in December so I can show a total of 6 points in French (B1 listening, A2 speaking) instead of the 3 points right now and maybe that would help in case the problem is only with the M.Com. degree. But if it's with the AOT, I don't know what to do!

Wow.. I'm lost... have written to BIQ, HK and waiting for their response.. Please do help me guys if you can throw some light on anything.. Thanks
i think so they have awarded you 6 points for your education

Just in case the reason for rejection is M.Com. not being counted and if they are considering only the B.Com. degree, I am still confused how many points would the B.Com. degree give.

As per this PDF, B.Com. gives 6 points for EDUCATION:
http://www.cicic.ca/682/tableaux-comparatifs-de-diplomes-quebec.canada (Select country as "Inde")

As per this PDF, B.Com. (Universitaire 1er cycle 3 ans ou +) should give 10 points for EDUCATION:
http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/publications/fr/divers/Grille-synthese.pdf

Can someone please clear this confusion?

Bro, my AOT (B.Com. in Finance/Acctg) is U024 Comptabilité et sciences comptables (BACC. - 3 ans), check on page 2 here: http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/publications/fr/divers/domaines-6.pdf

It belongs to "Diplôme d'études universitaires 1er cycle - 3 ans" which should give 10 points for Education as per http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/publications/fr/divers/Grille-synthese.pdf if M.Com. is not counted and 12 points if M.Com. is counted.

And ofcourse, A.O.T. should give 6 more points as per
http://www.cicic.ca/682/tableaux-comparatifs-de-diplomes-quebec.canada (select "Inde")

So 10 or 12 points for Education (depending on whether they count M.Com. or not) and an additional 6 points for A.O.T. without a doubt. Correct? If they gave me 10 points for Education by not counting the M.Com. degree then my total is 48 points and I am 1 point short, which I can cover up by sending my DELF B1 certificate next month. But if the problem is something else, I don't know what to do or what the problem is.

I think I shouldn't have shown them the M.Com. degree at all because not only is it Distance Education but it specializes in Management instead of Accounting (U024 Comptabilité et sciences comptables) and maybe that could have created the confusion too.

I just don't know until BIQ, HK replies to me and tells me what the problem is.

I am not sure whether you will get the point for Distance Learning study or not.
And as per my thinking B.com will get you only 6 points. Only degree with 4 year of study (After 12) will have 10 points. And I don’t think so there will any problem with your AOT. I am not a commerce student but it seems like your AOT does match with your study.
http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/immigrate-settle/permanent-workers/official-immigration-application/requirements-programs/glossary.html#work-experience
So according to my opinion, your point will be as below:
Study: 6 point for B.com (12 point for Master, but I am not sure about Distance Learning)
AOT : 6 point
Experience : 6 point (If you haven’t completed 4 years yet)
Age : 16 points (I hope you are < 35)
IELTS : 6 points
French : 4 points (3+1).
Finance : 1 point
If we don’t consider Master degree than 45 points and if they consider Master degree then 51 points.
This is purely based on my assumption.
Please other forum members can provide their inputs.

There could be two reasons:

1. Always BIQ considers highest education, As you did M.Com in Management but your work experience is in accounting that's why, they gave you 0 point in AOT.

2. Your m.Com is in distance education, this might be the reason also.

If you Show only B.Com this time, you will get 6 points in education not 10 because only 4 years or more than 4 years of indian university course or your AOT should be in priority list get 10 points .

As you have showed your M.com education, This might be less possibility that they delete M.Com from your profile.

As far as I know, it's okay if your work experience is not related to your degree if it has been obtained in the last 5 years. So that should not affect AOT points, correct?

Secondly, so many B.Com. graduates do MBA and MBA is never in accounting, it's in finance, marketing, HR, etc...and then they may get a job in accounting.. so how are they accepted?

Can you provide me the source which says you need 4 years of an Indian university course to get 10 points? Did you check out the links in my last 2-3 posts that show B.Com. (BACC-3 yrs) should get 10 points?

There are two conditions:

1. if you obtained your degree in the last five years and your work exp is not related to your education then in that case you will get 0 point in aot.

2. if it exceeds five years and your education is not related to your work exp then you will get 0 point in aot as well as 0 point in work exp.

Secondly, so many B.Com. graduates do MBA and MBA is never in accounting, it's in finance, marketing, HR, etc...and then they may get a job in accounting.. so how are they accepted? yes i agree, but your work exp is related to your b.com not mba.

Oh my god, I just realised that "B.Com." is treated as "Universitaire 1er cycle 2 ans" and not "Universitaire 1er cycle 3 ans ou +" so according to http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/publications/fr/divers/Grille-synthese.pdf I will only get 6 points for B.Com. so that means my application was rejected due to one of the three things:

1) They have not counted my M.Com. degree so I got only 6 instead of 12 points for Education (B.Com.).
2) They counted my M.Com. and given me full 12 points for Education but didn't give me any points for AOT because my experience as Accounting Assistant is not related to my M.Com. in Management but to my B.Com. in Finance/Accounting. (although I find this weird, I don't think work exp should match degree if it's not >5 years)
3) Or both of the above.

Hence my application fell short of required points. Correct guys?

Hi guys,

Nevillek, I agree with you about the Work experience and Area of Training points confusion. To the seniors Where exactly does it say that the Work Experience must relate to the Area of Training?. ??? As far as I know, you get points for the Area of Training as long as it falls under the 16, 12 or 6 points criteria and as long as the degree was obtained within 5 years prior to the CSQ application.

So to me, it seems like the Work Experience criteria and the Area of Training criteria are two completely different categories.

In my case, I applied for CSQ in June 2012, and put down, if I remember correctly U074 as my AOT, (I completed my undergraduate degree (3 years) in Business Management in 2011) and U074 was the closest match to my degree/AOT, but for my Work Experience I put down part time, sales advisor/associate (6 months experience working in a shop) because at the time of my application, that's the only job/work experience I had as it was/still is hard to find a proper job. (So whatever experience I had at the time of application, I put in down on the form, and that experience was... like I said, 6 months part time in a shop.)

So according to my calculations: I should get 10 points for the undergraduate degree, 6 points for my AOT and 4 points for Work Experience. (As like I said, from what I know, it doesn't say anywhere that the Work Experience must relate to AOT)

Correct me if I'm wrong and please send me the link that says different.
