Hello,

I just want to give u guys some background information before I ask my question. So I applied to sponsor my husband in march 2010 and he had an interview on September 2011, then our file was transferred from Germany to Austria on May 17,2012. On September 19, 2012 he received a letter stating the he do the following:
1. Renew medicals
2. Send in a new police check certificate
3. Pay the right of Permanent residence fee.

My question is how long do u guys think after we do all the above until we get a decision. Also will they send the passport by mail since the embassy in Germany is closed?

I have been quite excited since we received the above instructions cuz i feel like were almost done with this process and he'll be here hopefully by January.....but I don't want to get my hopes up to much.

Yes, this would suggest they are almost done. As long as there is no public health issue on the medicals, the police certificate doesn't show any change and they receive the RPRF the next step would be to request his passport.

How passports are handled varies by visa office. If your husband is from a visa exempt country, then they may not even ask for his passport and may just ask for copies of the pages from his passport. But he will need to follow the specific directions.

According to the Austrian visa office's web site they do have open hours, so he may be able to take it to them and obtain his visa and COPR. They also accept documents by mail or by courier.

My suggestion is to obtain it in person if that is permitted. Otherwise, I would suggest using a courier service with a prepaid return envelope for it, to minimize the chance that it might be lost.
