Quarantine Location

Hello,

I have a job offer in Northern BC. Will it be acceptable for me to fly to Vancouver, then change on to a flight north and then to quarantine in that area at an Air BnB? My new employer mentioned that it may be necessary for me to quarantine at a government facility in Vancouver?

I have checked the government website and it only seems to say that i must have a plan in place for isolating. It doesn't discuss where. I do not want to book flights northwards and accommodation if this will not be deemed acceptable on arrival.

Or to go from the airport to collect a hire car from town? Is this acceptable?

Also, are there still restrictions on crossing provincial boundaries?

Ferry is likely to be high risk. If you Just use to washroom anytime from the airport to your AirBnB you could be exposing lots of people. Call or email CBSA.

You will be quarantined only when you don't have a plan for self isolation

For the sake of everyone's safety, consider a plan that avoids exposure in close indoor spaces.

Is this forum full of the most neurotic people, or is this attitude common in Canada right now? It must be unbearable there if so. What is the death rate there, 0.1% or less, like most other places? Almost all very old and already dying... You do realise the same thing happens whenever there is a bad winter flu season? That death happens every day in normal times?

Also, has it occurred to you, even for a second, that... I might not have it? Or that I might have already had it and am immune? Or that, like most younger people, I am so completely unaffected by it, that I don't even develop antibodies, because it's of such little significance?

Wow, this is absolutely the incorrect response to (a) the legal obligations on you under the Quarantine Act and (b) the real danger this virus poses to remote communities, like those in Northern BC, who have little medical resources and any possible infection puts them in perilous risk if anything else were to happen in their community.

This is, btw, the attitude of British Columbia, the province into which you are coming, and seemingly disregarding your legal obligations. We just told the NHL that we wouldn't bend the rules for them, and lost out on millions of dollars of much-needed revenues because of our desire to keep British Columbians safe in the face of this virus.

So what about standing outside on the top deck of the ferry, with a face mask on, gloves, complete avoidance of other people, and copious amounts of hand sanitiser, and screaming at anybody who comes near me (bearing in mind i probably don't have it)? Is that safe enough?
