Well, I might be able to answer this one. My parents were in a similar situation last year awaiting their renewal but had to be in India urgently. So they left for India and then applied for PRTD at VFS. Also they can help you with paperwork and rest of the stuff. As long as they find out that you are not flouting any residency norms you should be fine. The whole process took around 3-4 weeks.
Also since you mentioned that this is your new PR card, can you find/pay someone to bring your PR card back to india personally? I've heard a lot of people doing that and that was just fine.
