I am a PR holder with my two sons studying in Toronto University and they have no PR issues. Our PR expired recently. However, PR renewal has been approved by IRCC on humanitarian basis. So I have to travel to Toronto before April to get my renewed card or else it will be cancelled.
  • I applied for PRTD on October 14th via VFS. It’s been more than 3 months – not yet approved.
  • My twin daughters have admission in Universities in Toronto but we can’t fly due to PRTD.
I wanted to ask :
  • How long will it take to get PRTD ? I have also provided the letter from IRCC approving my renewal.
  • Does anyone know if there are any other options – such as whom to call? The embassy does not pick calls or answer queries or provide processing time
  • I have filled the webform several times with no response

Do the twins have valid PR cards? PR card only count so much. If you don’t get approved for a PRTD then you can’t get the PR card. Normally people apply for a PRTD and if approved then apply for a PR card once in Canada. Is the PR card only a 1 year PR card? There is no time frame for PRTD based on H&C to be reviewed unfortunately.

Twins PR has also expired now.
I got a consultant and applied on H&C for renewal much before our PR expired . The approval came in October and since the twins are doing A levels in UAE , we applied for PRTD. Its been over 3 months . Whom shall I contact ?

They said they will determine the PR card (year) once we appear before them.

We are worried as the letter from IRCC states that we have to appear in 6 months time but we are not getting a PRTD to appear. Just 2 months left.

Unfortunately there's really no one to contact to speed up processing. The only option is to wait. Approval of the PR cards also doesn't necessarily guarantee approval of the PRTD. I assume you applied for the PRTD under H&C as well?

Do you have an opportunity to fly to the US and then re-enter Canada through a land border? That would be another option if you have a US visa where you do not need to wait for the PRTDs.

Did you meet the residency requirement at the time you applied for the PRTD?

If you don't already have an approved US visa, then that option isn't available to you. Right now they are scheduling interviews for late 2022 / early 2023 so you won't get the US visa in time.

I didnt meet the residency requirement . So, I hired a lawyer to get my H&C. It was approved after 1.5 years and I received a letter to appear at IRCC canada to receive my renewed PR

Right. But as I understood it, that H&C application you submitted was for the PR card. The PR card and the PRTD are two different applications. To the best of my knowledge you should have requested the PRTD under H&C as well. It's not a regular PRTD since you don't meet the residency requirement. Anyway, not much you can do at this point but wait. Good luck.

As already mentioned you should have applied for PRTD based on H&C. It also appears that you have only been given a chance to keep your PRstatus in person in Canada. Whethef you’ll be able to retain your PR status in Canada has not been determined yet. When you are given a 1 year PR card it is only give you a PR card while a decision about your PR status is made.

Why didn't my consultant in canada tell me this? We paid a lot of money to hire the consultant and apply for PR renewal . And we got it

If this was the case I could have applied for PRTD from uae.

You should have applied for a PRTD based on H&C from the UAE. Unfortunately your consultant gave you bad advice. The fact that you didn’t get a 5 year PR card means that this isn’t a standard or guaranteed PR renewal. If you are able to get the PRTDs I hope you are moving permanently to Canada. If you aren’t moving to Canada permanently when you arrive in Canada you risk your status.
