Hi Guys,

Few tips for Accountants or Accounts Managers:-

1) Update your CV with Canada address & Cell number
2) Present your CV in max 2 or 3 pages (2 pages will be better)
3) Your last 2 employers will be crossed checked
4) Highlight key skills in your CV such as Budgeting,Project wise Profitability, Oracle, Advance Excel, etc (don't mention date of birth, nationality and even photo)

JOB SEARCH

How you will start your job search is important and the way you do it is more important. Following are the guidelines which may fit your situation:-

1) Search Finance & Accounts Jobs on Indeed.ca, Monster.ca, Robert Half (also known as Accountemps), PTC Accounting, Lannick group
2) Apply for all the positions (such as Senior Accountant, Accountant, Account Manager, Financial Analyst, Management Accountant)
3) Don't change your CV according to situation
4) Make sure your email address is active and you are regularly checking the same on daily basis
5) You will get a response in form of rejection or further test for Excel , Accounts (AP, AR, GL and Canadian Accounts) from consultant.

Note:
1) There are a lots of outsourcing companies in Canada ( for Finance & Accounts companies) which are hiring the candidates and pays well also.
2) Accountemps is outsourcing company which hires to do accounting for their clients on temporary basis ( for days, weeks, or month also). They pay from $12 to $14 per hour. After registering with them , you need to follow them on a weekly basis to look for positions with their clients.
3) PTC accounting is an recruitment firm which act as recruitment consultant and directly place you in company

If you have following, your chances are high (just my thought and from my experience) to get response:-

1) ERP experience (Oracle, SAP,etc)
2) Familiar with Excel (Advance excel is best, if you know)

It depend upon case to case to get response such as experience in specialised area such as AR, AP, Reporting ,etc. (AR & AP are non regulated area and you don't need to have any certification from Canada)

AFTER GETTING TEMPORARY JOB IN FINANCE

1) Once you get a temporary job also in Finance & Accounts , you can built your network and in CV you can add Canada Experience (even for weeks or months)
2) You will be looking for jobs (might be 3 months to 12 months) for good break in your career.
3) You will be earning something after getting registered with consultants.
4) How you succeed in getting good job depend upon you.

I have experience myself and got response jobs applied in 4 days from PTC accounting & Accountemps. I have registered myself with Accountemps and they told me to follow every week and inform my availability. As I have back to Dubai , I am not able to apply for job currently. Will apply full fledged once permanently moved to Canada.

I have experienced this in 25 days and overall positive with the job market in Finance & Accounts in Canada. There is no shortage of Finance jobs and you can see plenty. All you need to do is have patience and stick to your profession and wait for the right opportunity to come ( till that time do temp jobs).

Wish you all the best and keep in touch even after getting settled in Canada.

Hi,

was wondering , i was surfing alot of fourms online mentioning that accounting jobs have dried up :(
I had a diploma back in Singapore and now would be studying in Canada next year. Are the prospects as grim as portrayed online ?.
And would a Canadian degree from an average uni (SFU,Uvic, etc) helps in getting employment at all? or its just another investment with min return ...........
sorry but i sounded kind of worrisome ,after all moving to a new country would be quite unsettling.Plus singaporean's english have a notorious reputation....mostly known as singlish.

thanks for the info
we want to share information about how we can apply for the CGA or CMA or CA please
