PROS and CONS of landing All Together {Family of 6 (2+4)} NEED COMMENTS

Dear Friends,

I am confused to land alone or to land with full family. I thought let me put this in front of Experienced members of this forum to have their valuable inputs on this Issue.

Landing : July 2011
Profession : Accounts and Finance
Funds available : USD 55,000/-
Destination : Toronto
Kids : 4, Ages Between 13 to 5
Wife : Home Maker, But will work in Canada, because Kids are grown up
PA : Ready to do survival jobs!


Could you please share your experiences, and advise me about the Pros and cons of landing at one go!!

Please let me know about the Child Tax Benefit also if some body received this benefit after landing!

I am not in Canada nor have kids. So this is purely my speculation.

Schools in Canada generally start in Aug/Sept. Considering that you are landing in July your kids will have around 1 month to adjust.
You will have 3 option,
1. Bring whole family togather.
I don't find any particular advantage in this situation except all of the family will land togather and clearing customs, etc will be easier

2. Bring your wife only and kids later(a month or 15 days)
Both you and your wife can search for survival jobs.
You'll need to do house hunting, school hunting, etc. Two hands are better than one. Also females are generally good negotiators and would know the requirement of the family better. So will be good for both.

3. Only you land.
You can also negotiate for your wife's job at the same place or try getting her a job so that she can start earning. This will be good if your wife is shy/not familiar with foreign culture/have language problems.

Check the link for child tax benifit. You need to have a PR for getting cctb which won't take lot of time.

I agree point by point of what nano has advised. I have stayed in canada on two occasions for more than 5 months. I have had experience of the hardship you have go through specially your first winter. Now i am not sure about your present location so you should be worried about the weather coming your way. as far as living expenses is concerned typically basement rental is around 700-800 CAD$ + 200 CAD $ for communication and electricity+cable+grocery+transportation costs (typically running expense should be 2800-3000 CAD$).

If given a choice (provided you are going first time outside the country for living) I would prefer to land alone first and call my family later (month or so) education wise the intake is in sept but for the immigrants they are open and can get the admission in between the session. Though through my experience i have seen people go against the advice to go alone (family pressure) so go by what family says. (if you have someone in toronto who can help you out then it's a different story.

thanks a lot for sharing your experience and suggestions .I am the principal applicant and my spouse is included in my application and an upcoming baby will be included too , if god permits . the EDD of the baby is April 28, 2011. what could be your suggestions regarding landing and living in Ontario ? currently my PPR is withheld due to my upcoming baby.
