Hello
I am a 21 year old student from Riyadh and I have acceptance from memorial university of Newfoundland. I want to apply for the student visa but before that I was hoping I could get some answers , regarding some questions that I have been unable to answer.

Should I apply online or apply via the embassy and will their be a problem regarding me taking gap years(I never enrolled in any university before)
? What is the duration of the visa when issued as in how long is it valid for 1 year or the duration of your program?
I know that the proof funds requires the tuition fee+10,000 and 3000 for air tickets, am I right? One method is to have the money for 4 months in your account or the person supporting you.

I hope to find answers to these questions because I know people who went to Canada from Riyadh and everyone says something different , so I am confused.

Thank you for your help and I wish everyone who is the process of applying for his/her visa all the best!

Firstly, congratulations. I also just got accepted to Memorial University to study BBA and im yet to apply for a visa. What is your intended program of study? Did you apply for the Fall or Winter semester?

As regards your questions, you can either apply online or paper depending on your convenience, all you have to do is upload the required documents if you are applying online and i dont think there are problems with you havent attended any university in previous years. The embassy will only issue you a TRV and you will get a study permit at the point of entry at Canada and i think its valid for the duration of your study as i have googled so far and if you are studying past the date stated, you can apply for an extension. The proof of funds require tuition fee+10,000 CAD for living expenses for a year as stated by the CIC website but if you wan to provide more, you can do that and i dont think air tickets need to be shown. And yes the statement of account must be for a period of 4months. I must add you need to add a letter of explanation to your documents to show your study plans and you intend to return to your country upon completion of your study.

What are people from Riyadh and others saying,if you can share we can discuss about it and get it cleared out. I must say im happy to find someone going to the university as i am. Feel free to ask more questions and i wish you the best also.

Congratulations on your acceptance! BBA is a very good degree and I hear memorial's BBA is actually good and quite competitive to join so good on you (Y)
I am going to study bachelor's of science and I applied for the winter semester, but I am thinking of actually changing to the spring semester if I find that the subjects are offered in the spring. Are you going to the St.John's campus or Grenfell?

People from Riyadh are telling me different things, one person said that I should get a loan, another said just do what the CIC website says tuition+10000(this sounds reliable)
I have heard its faster apply to the embassy directly instead of online in my case as the Riyadh embassy is fast. I just want to get my things right so that I can apply early. I just don't know how the letter or explanation should be like. I have been told it should, as you said contain my future plans and also my home ties, just seems so random writing a letter but it's very important as a lot of people have gotten their application rejected for not satisfying the immigration officer that they will leave after their studies end.

Where are you applying from and are you a continuing student or a freshman? All the best to you :D

:D Thank you very much for the wishes and i heard that as well and im really happy to have made it,its really a good one :D

Actually i think you should start during Winter provided there arent any reason that could cause a delay to apply for your visa now against the winter semester, its actually best to start undergraduate studies at either Fall or Winter so you could get access to many benefits the school offers during those periods. I'm going to St John's campus, how about you?

I would tell you to do what the CIC website says as long as you can provide the proof of funds stated. You can google what a letter of explanation should entail or check other posts on here to gather more things you need to explain and how to go about it. Thats why you need to gather your facts ASAP,you still have time to apply and im yet to apply but will do that soon so as to allow enough time for processing as i've seen people complaining of longer processing times but i know i wont fall into such,AMEN :D Im trying to make compilations of what should be in the Letter of explanation,as soon as im done,i can send you a copy and you can also add to it from what you have seen so far.

I'm applying online from Qatar, but my application will be processed at Abu Dhabi but i can also apply through the VFS here in Qatar but im kinda confused on either paper or online is the best but i guess both are okay,it just takes the grace of God to get what you need in quick time, which i hope for. I'm a fresh student.

Have you set up your MUNmail and the self service so as to get emails from the school as to when to begin registration and other things. So when you make conclusions about when to begin and when you wish to apply for visa, please keep me posted and we can also get in touch with each other via emails and be updated with each other's progress on visa and going to school as i wish we could both start together during the Winter depending on your decision ;D. I wish you success also pal :)

You are right, every subject is usually started in the fall then continues onto the winter term and the spring term is the most useless term :p not so much courses are offered, I just want to save more money so that my application can be stronger. We need to show 18800 I guess because the tuition is 8800 and 10000 are what the CIC website says. I am not sure, but that is what I understood. Although in the application form it asks for tuition, room and board and other fees and what funds you have for your stay. BTW are you going to have a medical? I will do it before I apply.
Yes, I have set up my munmail and also the self-service. I will keep you posted and I guess I'll apply using the paper embassy option. We also use VFS here HAHAHAHA! I think it's everywhere VFS. I will keep you posted and I once again would like to wish you all the best should I go or not go as you said it all happens by grace of God, so fortunately we and all the others who are applying are successful. If you need any help inbox me and I will do my best to help you :D

Im happy you really understood my point. Are you supporting yourself or your parents are doing that? In the letter you got from the school, how much was written as tuition fees, mine had 4400,so i was hoping to know if you had the same in your letter and also if the 4400 was stated only for a semester.
Yes thats what we are required to show 8800+10000. You can basically leave the room and boards empty provided you are not staying on campus. Well for my stay,i have less than 10000 but im hoping to back it up with parents assets and i hope that convinces them and i want to wait for the embassy to direct me for the medicals after i apply because you only need to get it done with doctors accredited by CIC.

If you are going by paper, your application will be directed to Abu Dhabi for processing. So i glad you reviewed applying now :D Do you have all documents ready or still waiting on one or two things and what National are you? I wish everyone applying success.

HAHA ;) yeah it just says $4400 and everything there is one semester fee except the books and medical insurance and student fee(I guess this what the CIC means by others in the form)so I just doubled the price of accommodation ,meals and tuition. Did you apply for housing yet and where do you plan to stay paton, mcphareson or the burton pond? I am Sudanese, what about you? My father will pay the fees :p, I can't support myself yet :p I am waiting for some things and I'd rather also just get the police certificate earlier, here in saudi it takes some time. I also decided that I will apply with VFS. I think its better than online for some reason I believe online will just take ages.

Ohh i thought as much, thank you for the clarification ;D Well im staying off campus as on campus fees are exorbitant, that way i can cook my own special meal and get some freedom :p Im a Nigerian and i dont see police report as part of the document listed to be submitted, others on this forum said it was necessary or did you get a confirmation that it is vital? Let me know when you are set to apply. I hope you got my messages in your inbox
