Proof of work experience - do Ontario, CIC ever call? Other documents?

Okay, I need to know this.
I do not live in an English speaking country, and my employment reference letter will be translated and notarized by a state certified translator.

My employer isn't quite good with English... he can churn out an e-mail or two, but he can't quite hold a proper conversation in English.

My question is... do CIC or Ontario ever call our employers? How often does this happen?

Also, other than the reference letter (on company letterhead with a business card), does CIC or Ontario ever ask for any further proof? How often does this happen? What about "payslips"? We don't really have these here... the company just transfers our wages over to our bank accounts and that's about it. The wage is stated on the work contract itself.

So, what's your experience? Is a reference letter confirming my wage, work experience, duties, etc. with an official seal and signature enough?

Yes, Ontario called me to discuss my job duties. They tried to call my manager 4 times till he responded. They interviewed him for 30 minutes and asked very detailed questions about my job! Sounds weird but happened to me

30 minutes?!
I know that most managers would certainly not stand for that! You were lucky. Half an hour is a lot to dedicate to some random 3rd party, your manager had no obligation to dedicate so much time under any circumstances.

Now, I have no issues with their offices contacting me, I'm the one trying to immigrate, but my boss would certainly have an issue holding a 30 minute conversation in English.

Have they asked for anything else?

That's the way it works unfortunately. Ontario officers are concerned about three main things:
1- Proving that you have at least 1 year of full-time work experience
2- Proving that the National Occupation Code NOC matches your duties in the reference letters.
3- You have enough funds according to the Low Income Cut Off LICO.

Although CIC performs the previous 3 checks, however when it's done in the provincial nomination stage it becomes much easier for CIC to verify
