Proof of severance of past relationship

Hello forum members.
I got the PPR from the Manila visa office this morning and it requires me to provide "documentary proof of severance of sponsor's relationship with XXXXXX XXXXXXXXX."
I am the sponsor and I don't have any contact with that past relationship since the last 3 years. I don't have any phone number or address. We were common law relationship so no divorce papers.
So my question is what would be an acceptable "documentary proof" for the visa office except a letter signed by both of us? They don't specify anything on the letter I received.

I would think if you signed something written up that essentially declares that relationship over as of xxxxx date and then have it notarized or something 'legally' binding such as that it should be sufficient. I might be way off base with that so if anyone else has more knowledge on this than I, please speak up.

Thanks Alurra71. I sent an email to the VO today asking what could be considered a valid documentary proof. Waiting to see if and what they will reply.
In the meantime, any other suggestions?

1. tax documents since that last relationship ended. I imagine you were filing as 'single' until you married your current spouse.

2. apartment lease/mortgage since the relationship ended with just your name on it - this one may not be "strong" on it's own but with other evidence, it could help.

3. bank documents/wills/insurance which show you've removed her as a beneficiary, etc if she was at some point

4. This one might be funny but could be evidence. lol Did you change your relationship status on facebook after the break up? If so, you probably got the 'so sorry to hear' type msgs. You could include them.

Those a good one SenoritaBella but I'm not sure CIC gives much credibility to Facebook statuses hehe.
I like the tax documents though, that would be a good one.
I recently registered my marriage here in Quebec, I wonder if that certificate would be valid as proof.

I meant any condolence messages not the facebook statuses themselves. lol

The certificate won't hurt but I think they want to be assured you have infact severed the relationship with your ex. Will she will be open to giving a notarized statement?

Hi,
My hudband got did a declaration of severance of common -law relationship at the MP's office who happened to offer free notary services. So we had that letter notorized and sent it with the application! As per the checklist this is the document that they required.
