Hi again guys. I've been reading through this forum ever since I found and I think I may have made a bit of a mistake with my application package. I didn't really send a lot of proof of a genuine relationship. I believe I sent our marriage certificate and then some print outs of trips we took to see each other and that's basically it. I guess there was so much other stuff that I was preparing that I didn't even really think that they would question our relationship. Do you guys think this will cause a long delay on our process?

This will cause a delay. They want pictures/emails/Skype Messages/FB Messages/Long distance calls showing both your names or numbers. They will most likely sent you a letter to provide more evidence. I don't really know how long it will delay things though.

Right. Um, if I was to prepare a file and email it to them containing all that stuff before my PR changes to in progress, would that help with the delay?

No, do't send it before they request it. That just causes more issues - they aren't expecting to receive anything, and while it's unlikely, they MAY not request any more info. So prepare the file and have it ready to go, but don't send it until they actually request it.

Hi,

I thought the same too. I only sent 9 pictures, our marriage certificate and a brief letter about the trips we have taken together. 9 months later CIC requested proof of cohabitation and medical request. So I'm guessing they are okay with the relationship, but just want to make sure we live together. I have requested notes on our file so I can see for sure if they are okay with the relationship even with the little evidence I provided. For proof of cohabitation I sent lease agreements, bank statements, random pieces of mail with our addresses, our T4 slips. our drivers licenses and a copy of our cheque book with both our names on it. I feel like it was too much information though, as it was one inch thick when I printed it all out. But hey, I just wanted to provide as much evidence as possible.

But like others said, CIC will request it if they need additional information.

Thanks again for your help. The file is prepared if/when they request it. My other question is we're going back to Canada in a couple weeks. I know I say I'm returning but for my husband, what does he say? Obviously that he coming for a visit but how to go about saying that I've been approved as a sponsor and we're in the PR process. I've never had a good experience with border patrol and I'm quite worried about the crossing the border.

I'm on my phone so don't have the link handy but earlier today I posted a link for dual intent. Go through my posts from today and you'll find it, it lays out exactly what to do and say at the border. :)

Being worried about crossing is more likely to get you hassle. "Purpose of visit?" "I'm here to visit my wife until our permanent resident application is approved." Just remember that they are there to serve you, so relax, be honest, and answer the questions without rambling.

So, I'm going through my file and I've released there not that many pictures to send. Neither my husband nor I are big pictures takers. Just to give an idea I update my Facebook picture maybe once or twice a year and probably don't take anymore of myself other than that, he's the same, so we haven't taken a lot of pictures together. Obviously wedding pictures, the party that followed, and a few selfies here and there but that's about it. I do have screen shots of the hours we've talked on Skype and literally thousands of text messages, I would never send them all but I do have them in case of anything. Will the lack of pictures matter or everything all together will be fine?

If you don't have them then you don't have them, just provide what you do have. Also worth asking around with friends etc if they have pics of you from various events, trips, whatever. If you attended friends' weddings, for example, there's probably at least a group shot and whatnot.

Ultimately you can't produce what you don't have, so just do your best.

Ohh, yeah, friends! hahaha. I know, his family especially, will have pictures we don't have. Thank you for that. Not sure why I didn't think of that but thanks so much for all your help.

It certainly is. You seem to be very knowledgeable in this whole process, if I may ask, I've been living here in the US with my husband and I applied from here but I'm going back to Canada next month. I'll update my address and everything but my question is me moving back won't change anything in the process. I can't think of any reason why it would and I apologize if that's even dumb to ask, I just want to make sure of everything.

I'm guessing you are the Canadian and your husband is the American?

What you do pretty much has no bearing at all on the application, it's more about where the applicant is. It's quite common that people live apart - visitor visas run out, people need to work, etc - so it's not an issue at all. :)

Well, he was actually planning on coming back with me. At least for a little while anyways. We're only about 4 months in so it could still be a few months yet, especially if there is a delay over the lack of information about our relationship that we sent, or anything else. But from what I've read and asked he should be fine to come for a visit, especially since I've already been approved as his sponsor. I think so anyways, haha.
