Proof of Medical Exam

How do medicals work exactly? This is my situation.

A few months ago, we went over to a valid doctor listed by CIC with the sheet of paper we were supposed to have and the required photos and we did a urinalysis, blood extraction, and an X-Ray. Since these things were managed by different facilities, we received papers from the main doctor's office and then we gave those papers to the other ones.

We got back on the bus with no papers in our hands except a receipt.

We read that we need to send proof of a medical examination to CIC. Supposedly the people we were just at are supposed to send stuff to CIC, so I guess CIC has our examination 'on file' and we have to show our own proof for it being there?

Will a receipt we received from the main doctor's office prove this or do we have to do some other stuff to prove it? Really need help here as it's getting closer and closer until we send our application off.

I would contact the Dr. He should have provided you with a IMM1017 form (receipt) with one of your photos attached to submit with your application. (Unless you had applied previously without doing medicals and the VO requested your medicals, but even then I believe the Dr. would have provided you with the IMM1017 to submit to the VO. Perhaps some with more experience can confirm this.)

The doctors office I went to did the same thing to me, we tried contacting them to get the form we were supposed to get, but we never got anywhere with them. So then we contacted CIC and they said to send any and all original receipts that you got from doing the medicals, and attach a note explaining why you haven't provided the correct paper. (make sure you keep copies for yourself though!)

I thought for sure my application was going to get returned to me, but we didn't have any problems at all, my wife has been approved to sponsor me and on ecas it says medicals received. =) Of course you should still try to contact the doctors office to see if they can help you first, but if not then it's not really a huge deal, the CIC person on the phone said it literally happens all the time.

Good luck! =)

Kind of a moot point now... but the medicals should be done as close as possible to the date you actually submit your application. They are valid for only 12 months from the medical date... so if you did them a few months ago and are still waiting to submit the app... you may be starting with something like a 9 month expiry date on meds instead of 12!

Hopefully it will not be an issue though and your whole app will be processed within that time, OR the VO can decide and their discretion to extend the validity of your medicals beyond 12 months if needed. Worst case scenario is it goes over the 12 months limit and you have to do them all a 2nd time (adding delays and $$).

This is true, I made this mistake as well, did my medicals in June but didn't send my app until 2 months later. We didn't plan on doing it that way but my background check took FOREVER to come back so we had no choice. So far so good though, hopefully Ottawa will extend mine if need-be.

I called the office with this information.

I was told that IMM1017s are typically sent along with the application out-land only and a receipt should do the trick.

I'm in-land, so they already sent out the form.
