If i would have enough points without French, then I would write a letter too and would mark my proficiency on the application. So what if they don't give me the points. As far as I understand, they won't reject you for marking down points for which they will not award you as long as you make 67 points.

Agreed, if you have 67 already, do a written submission for the French. They might give you some points, they might not but you don't need them anyways so whatever :)

Dream team, the essence of TEF is to prove his proficiency. If an English graduate from US is asked to prove his level of english, his ability in French might be required as well. And staying in France for 6 month is not enough because I have lived in a non English spoken country for more than 3 yrs and I know my proficiency in the language except if his stay in France was to learn more French.
