When landing as a pr from USA how should I show funds. Should I have a bank printout from my us bank of how much are in my accounts that will eventually be transferred to Canadian banks??
Or something else? I know the form I need to fill out but what else?

I'm not sure of the min I will have over 10k but it will be in my account. I won't have the actual cash on me? So how do I do this? Should I open a border to border account first? But then I shouldn't report it because the bank would do that right? So confused

Proof of funds have prescribed limit by the Canadian Immigration authorities.
Check out this link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp

While they do not say how much you should bring when you land, the immigration officer always asks this.
For me, I told them the same amount which s mentioned in this table for 2 people. They did not asked me to show it. But the guy before me in line, he was asked to show the money and those guys actually counted it.

So my advice would be to bring the money prescribed in the table in this link.

When coming from USA, you can tell them that you have some amount in bank and you will be withdrawing it here and carry some cash 5K-6K just to show them that you are actually carrying the money...

any other comments on this !!!!

When I landed in Canada from the US. I had a bank statement showing proof of funds. However, the immigration officer didn't even look at it.

The only time you need show proof of funds is if you are immigration through another channel that is NOT family class, so Browntrout, you won't have to show proof of funds as you are being sponsored, if I read your signature properly.

I am quite sure for those immigrating via other methods a bank statement (current) showing your holdings will be sufficient as long as they meet the CAD amount prescribed for immigration of your family size and composition.

Good luck!

I immigrated to Canada thru skilled worker route and although I was instructed to have a proof of funds such as a bank statement, the immigration officer didn't even check it and didn't ask. When I showed her, she said it was not necessary. This was March 2009.

I think it all depends on case to case. Some of my friends who immigrated through FSW told me that for them the proof pf funds were checked and in 1 isolated case even counted. Where as I have others who told me (including me) the immigration officer didnt even checked. Just asked how much you have with you.

Do you have any idea what happens if you come as temp worker.
Since you already have job whats the down limit?

I plan on taking 4-5K not more. Would it be a problem?

Thanks

refer to the link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp

You do not have to show that you have these funds if:

you have a valid offer of arranged employment in Canada AND
you are currently working or authorized to work in Canada.

Note that these 2 conditions are tiedup with "AND".
So if you satisfy these 2 conditions, you dont have to show these funds.

not a problem at all, you can bring 10,000 in cash without saying anything. Actually, you can bring more than that, but anything above 10,000 have to be declared.

One word of warning ...
My advice is to declare the amount you're importing if it's anything over $9,000 or so, just to be safe. Some overzealous CBP officers will go thru and count every penny you're carrying. Say you're carrying an envelope with $9,500 in it; they can (quite correctly) count any other amounts you're carrying in wallets, change purses, etc. to make sure you are in compliance with the reporting rule. Also, remember that the $10,000 is Canadian funds. If you're carrying $10,000 in U.S. currency, you'd actually be over the limitation by almost $600 or so, based on today's U.S./Canadian exchange rate.

the link is for FWS and I am coming as TWP. Is there any difference? Maybe this does not apply for me?
For the first clause I have valid offer of employment
for the second I have Letter of introduction from the embassy that I am allowed work visa. Is this enough?

I agree with Sharat.

The link also provides information on what would be acceptable as proof of the required amount. They did not ask usk to prove it either clearing into Canada.

Follow the directions from the link and you should be fine.

Cheers!!
