I want to invite my parents on my convocation ceremony, i wanted to know how much funds do i need show for this purpose.

also main thing i wanted to know that can i show fixed deposits as proof of funds or they will not be considered.

i wanted to show 12000 doller for them but they jus have 2000 liquid other 10000 as in fixed deposit.

Please advise me regarding the same....also please tell me know will they get visa just for 6 months or till the validity of their passport.

Any other tips or advise is also welcome...

Fixed deposits can be shown as proof of funds.... if they are not locked-in..... you must mention that the fixed deposits are not locked-in and can be liquidated, if required

However, CAD 2000 is very little.... their finances must cover airfare + about CAD 1000/week of visit

It depends on the assessment made by the visa officer

Your parents must show strong ties to their home country (property/other family living with the applicants/financial ties/employment or business, etc]

Thanks for response...

As i mentioned earlier i would be showing 12000 in which 2000 is in account and 10000 is fixed deposit which can be liquidated.
hopefully this should be fine and i will try to get as much docs to show ties

Some other suggestions that you may want to add to strengthen their financial situation.... if it applies to your parents:
a. Shares/stocks

b. Foreign currency if there are receipts to prove it was purchased from an authorized Forex dealer

c. Any pension funds (again if not locked-in, and can be partly withdrawn)

d. Rental income, if it's the case
