Dear All
Please I have an enquiry regarding the proof of funds upon landing in Canada. I am currently in Egypt and my bank account in Egypt, I am planning to do the landing then return for a period and then go back to Canada so:
-Does a bank statement in UK sterling pounds or American Dollars will be sufficient?
- Or it should be as a certified Cheque or draft (I have no idea??!)
-Or they want to see the money in our hands? (I guess too much and dangerous to carry)
I am confused, also please what is the cheapest flight tickets I can get from Egypt to Canada and return?
Thanks in advance

Hi, It is not necessary that you should bring cash. You can bring Demand draft or travelers cheque too. The POF should not be as a bank statement. You may bring either sterling pounds or US $ equal to the required funds. It is up to your choice what sort of currency, DD or TC you carry.

Hi, its not advised to show POF through bank statements. As advised by Member WILSON, please carry cash (USD or CAD / Sterling Pounds) and rest funds convert it into DD / TC. 80/20 rule is always best. 80% DD/TC and 20% Cash.

All the best...

Cheers..

Hi Wilson,

I am curious as to why people think a bank statement is not acceptable for POF at POE?

Surely POF which are acceptable to CIC during your application should be acceptable upon entry?

I know quite a few people on another forum who have successfully "landed" using a UK bank statement in sterling as POF.

Is there anywhere official we can read about bank statements not being accepted? The only requirement of which I am aware is the funds must be readily available and easily transferrable. If I have £10,000 in a UK bank I can get it transferred the same day to a Canadian bank by electronic transfer if I wish. So I fail to see why such bank statements will not be accepted?

We're planning to "land" at the end of August, but not move permanently until around January 2012. Because of the current poor exchange rate we don't necessarily want to convert our savings into Canadian dollars when we land, so we had planned on taking UK bank statements and then transfer the money as we need it - unless the exchange rate drammatically improves.

Wayne.

HI Cappuccino,

We have the same issue. Have you found out if Bank Statements are fine?
We have a large amount of money, some with Bank of America (in the USA in US dollars) and some with Halifax (in UK in GBP).
Everyone seems to think that it is risky to take only bank statements, but exchange rate is so bad right now... and we are not planning to move permanently until March 2012 but need to do landing formalities at the end of July.
We were thinking of cashing £15,000 and take it is cash, but I am not comfortable carrying so much cash. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Well in some cases, what i have seen that person carried Demand draft in Canadian dollars, showed the same at POE as POF but did not encash it and when returned to origin, applied to cancel the draft with nominal bank charges.

To the best of my research and from experience of others - bank statements are OK as long as they are
a) From a major bank
b) In CAD, USD, Sterling or Euro

Bank statements in other currencies will be risky.
If you want to use bank statements the very safest way of doing it is to open a Canadian bank account (Scotia Bank or HSBC Canada etc) from your own country if possible and transfer the funds prior to landing.

Thanks Cappuccino! I wonder what is COPR? Because I always read that this should be given to the Imm. Officer upon landing together with the passport... Where do u get it from? Thank you!

Thats called : (Record of Landing (OR) Confirmation of Permanent Residence)

Read here:

5. What documents do I need with me when I first land in Canada? When you first land in Canada, you will need your valid passport containing your unexpired Canada Immigration Visa and a document entitled Confirmation of Permanent Residence. Your accompanying dependents, if applicable, will need the same.

It is a good idea to also have evidence of your settlement funds and an inventory of all personal belongings in your possession and other items that you now own but intend to bring to Canada at a later date.
