I have submitted POF on a joint account of me and my spouse that we use as our savings account. My spouse will accompany me in canada. I have read yesterday on some group in FB that it is not allowed. Can someone please enlighten me on this matter please. Thank you.

Hi,

This is certainly new information. Per http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp (updated 2017-07-18) there is nothing stated that joint accounts are not valid.

My timelines are below and I did not have a problem with this issue even if I submitted a joint account I share with my spouse who will accompany me to Canada. Could you please quote something from the facebook group about this?

Thanks!

Why this worries me and makes me question it:
1. There is no letterhead and date of the letter which makes me question authenticity (is it really from CIC/IRCC) and even the effectivity of the rule
2. Does this apply to all streams? there is no mention as to what the addressee's stream is
3. At the bottom of your screenshot, there is even a question by the online community of legitimacy

The above is based on opinion and personal experience regarding POF only. Good luck with your application!

More info gathered from another thread I participate in: this appears to be express entry law forum by mark holthe. The advise in that thread is to follow official cic publications/ press releases

Does it mean that what they are saying is correct. I am skeptical on the info because there is no update in the CIC website regarding the matter.

IMHO I am skeptical too and agree with you that IRCC updates the website first before releasing information like this to a single person. A change in policy such as this is a major difference to the previous and is often done with official publications of updates on the website or other publications

Hello,

Just got more information. This is from @pavanreddy from another thread I follow:

Hello Guys,

*** very important information for applicants with spouse or common-law partner ***

I would like to share information this information with all you guys. I had been informed by Mr Mark Holthe a Canadian immigration lawyer at Stringam firm operates his business out of Lethbridge city in Alberta, that recently IRCC has changed the rules in regards to proof of funds for Permanent Resident Applicants settlement in Canada under express entry program. I have also called CIC and confirmed with agent about this.

Earlier acceptable proofs of funds by IRCC are following:
-bank accounts in principal applicant name or the name of applicant accompanying spouse/common-law partner;

-cashable investments in principal applicant name or the name of applicant accompanying spouse/common-law partner;

-cashable fixed deposits in principal applicant name or the name of applicant accompanying spouse/common-law partner.

Current acceptable proof of funds by IRCC are following :
-bank accounts in principal applicant name only, but not in the name of applicant accompanying spouse/common-law partner;

-cashable investments in principal applicant name only, but not in the name of applicant accompanying spouse/common-law partner;

-cashable fixed deposits in principal applicant name only but not in the name of applicant accompanying spouse/common-law partner.

I would like to request past applicants with spouse or common-law partner whose PR is approved/received to share their valuable inputs.

thanks

I have six months to apply for the oinp starting June 27, that's when I received the noi.. i am planning to show the complete proof of funds as a fixed deposit. Is it ok? what other documents are required to be shown apart from the Fixed deposit statement issued by the bank? Do I have to keep the fd for a certain amount for time before I apply?? And if I show multiple fixed deposits in a month amounting to the required POF for one person can I apply the following month for the oinp or do I have to wait for the sixth month to apply?? Kindly help

Hi, there was some members who wrote an email directly to CPC-Ottawa and got the response. Check it here https://snag.gy/b9DWkK.jpg
I believe I will still follow the guidelines stated on the CIC website as it is official.

@ eyts it is not even explicitly mentioned about information related to Principal/dependent applicants any where on CIC website . if you could share it would be great. However it says what is and not considered under proof of funds is mentioned.
