Proof of funds - Bank won't supply letter

I am currently in contact with the bank in order to get a proof of funds letter.

They told me that this is a new request (they have never done something similar) and probably won't be able to supply me one due to legal/policy issue (they are currently checking with their legal team).

If they cannot do this can I supply official bank statements (on letterhead + stamps)?

Yes, that's what they actually mean. All they want to see is that you have the cash you say you have in your account. Nothing fancy is needed.

Thanks, however bank statements do not show the date when the account was opened. How can I provide this information?

You will need to explain them your requirement.. May be visit another branch or check if 'Balance certificate' kind of option is available in internet banking. Without the required details on bank letterhead, case becomes weaker.
