Hello,
will be landing in calgary in march. Can someone please help with info on what's presentable on landing.I have a family of 4 but im scared of carrying all that cash(21000).
will part cash(10000) and a bank statement to show funds in USD be acceptable? I noticed the CIC website didn't say anything about bank statements but only mentioned drafts etc which are not easy to come by in third world countries.

In anticipation of a response

Thanks

Dear Misha

Either you need to show cash or Demand Draft in the name of Principal Applicant or spouse at the POE.
Bank Statements of banks that are not in Canada , are not acceptable

Have a blessed life ahead

Thank you all for your responses.Really appreciated.Opening a Canadian Bank account hasn't been easy as i was told there's a long wait before you are contacted(rbc) and frankly this process should be made easier for immigrants. Its puzzling that the embassy processing applications accepts bank statements but this rule isn't applied at POE.
Thanks for the heads up really appreciated.

Proof of funds that can be accessed from Canada is enough. You don't need to have all the required money on you. I believe it is quite easy to open account in Scotiabank in their Delhi branch. Anyway, rest assured, if you have funds that you can access, you will never be turned back from POE.

For the purpose of clarification, it is NOT true that bank statements are only accepted if they are from Canadian Bank(s). I moved from the US and brought only $300 in cash and rest was all in Bank Statements (Bank of America). I did not face any issue at the border while entering Canada and they did check all my papers including bank statements. Also to clarify, I didn't take any risk. I had done my research before taking this step so don't assume that I was one of the lucky ones.

That said, not sure which country are you from? Bank Statements from your country may or may not be accepted in Canada. If you are an Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi or from any other country in sub-continent, then I am 100% positive that your Bank Statements will not be accepted.

Dear Misha,
Bank statements/debit cards are only accepted from countries like UK, USA. Third world countries' bank statements will not be accepted i am 100% sure. and yes if you still got a problem with the USA bank statement or credit card , in this case from your home country you can make a draft payable to your account in Canadian bank. Which is very easy, just go to any western union or any reputable money exchange dealer and they will make one for you. Moreover, Travellers cheque is also an option and acceptable.

Sorry, wrong information again. Credit or Debit cards are NOT accepted as proof of funds from ANY country. Rest of your information is correct regarding bank statements.
