We feel lucky as no one has asked us but in Disembarkation from we had declared that we have funds. Custom Officer just said nothing and we crossed the counter in a minute!

Yep...
They didn't check our funds as well. I had cash and DD (CDN$).
The idea is always to be safe, and honest.
Just carry as advised above. I won't risk any problem at entry.

It might not be a good idea... Generally Immigration officer doesn't check physical money but they CAN.. be safe than be sorry.. Also, immigration officer wants to confirm how many funds you carrying but not your credit worth.

i mean if you show them a bank statement having the required amount of money present in the account. (in your country's currency). and then you have credit card. i've heard stories from people who have done in the same way. Will that suffice?

Can someone give me an insight into this...

We recently got our PR Visas stamped from London Visa office. We live in the middle east and wish to enter Canada, finish all the landing formalities and get back.
We have job commitments that require us to stay here in middle east for at least 2 years.
We plan to move for good after that.
My query is
1.Should we transfer all of our funds during our first landing? Or is it enough to show the proof of fund that we will transfer later like attested copies of bank statements, cash certificate etc. so that they are not taxed when we take it the second time

Anyone who has any idea....Please help

Friends,
I landed on July at Toronto & returned to India after 10 days. As a POF I (single) carried bank Travel Currency cards from 2 different banks with a total value of CAD 9500. Apart from these Debit cards I also took USD 1000 & CAD 650 in cash. At Immigration counter when asked, I told the fact clearly & the officer asked about type of the cards & also asked whether the money associated with the cards are on loan. I think he meant whether those are Credit cards. He didn't check anything else & simply wrote the approximate sum at the landing paper. Total time I spent on the counter was 2 minutes including signing at the paper at 3 places. I also carried Indian ATM cum Debit cards as safety measures.

Hi,

No one will ask you about your funds when you land. however, you've to declare your funds at the time of landing (everytime). you will get customs declaration form where you've to write how much amount you're carring with you.

at that time if you don't declare then you may get trouble. but if you're not carrying any big amount then no need.

I landed April, last year 2012 and took only 3000 CAD $ with me as cash. i spend 15 days there any came back, same issue like you. but now finally i'm moving permanently on 2nd Sep, 2013. this time i've already transfered my fund, in advance and will carry small amount with me.

so no worries, you will really enjoy your landing because they are welcoming immigrants with open hands and heart.

all the best.

Hi Canadabound,
You have to show the POF @ total no. of travelling persons at the time of Immigrateion as specified in CIC website. It could be cash, DD, TC or a instrument which is fully convertible or transferable in Canada. If the officer is strict he/she even may check the actual instument you are carrying. However you have to declare & fill the form if you are carrying cash currencies more or equal to 10000 CAD or equivalent.

Regards..

Hi SAf Khan

Thank you for replying
Did you declare what amount you will be carrying when u go for the second time...
No, I didn't.
Only thing which you can declare is about your belongings means if you've booked something or you've plan to bring to canada then you can make a list and get it stamped from custom officers. when your things plan at Canada then you can show that stamped letter that these items are exempted by the customs duty.

No need to tell about how much money you will bring second time.
